Ground down my Cadet keyring today
on: April 21, 2014, 03:29:38 AM
I almost never use the keyrings on my SAK's, so thought I'd try smoothing down my Cadet today. Lately I use the Cadet every day at work and the ring just gets in my way. I don't feel guilty about doing this to a common silver color model... I used a Dremel motor tool with a thin, cutting wheel (not sure which kind but see the pics). This wore down the majority of the keyring in seconds, like a knife through butter! I nicked one of the scales slightly. Then I used the stone type grinding wheel to smooth it down the rest of the way. This wheel did a great job of making it look almost perfect, and luckily it's just thick enough to do the job but not touch the scales, provided you have a steady hand. None of my SAK's are collectible so I think I might do the same thing to some of the others. Here are two pics.

I have done this to "working" Pioneers and Farmers...the keyring can give you blisters during long heavy cutting sessions...

Now I just reach for a Soldier! :tu:

I wish they would bring back the bail on the Pioneers/Farmers....

I have 2 black Cadet's, one with and one without keyring. The one without is carried the most, mainly because it came with it's own leather sheath, and I can trow it in my pocket with keys and coins without worry for scratches on the precious anodizing..
