My First "Bigger" Multi Tool!!!
on: April 23, 2014, 04:12:07 PM
I've just ordered another MT after yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeears! And thi time it is NOT a key chain sized one  :multi: It's maybe not from the full-sized ones either, I ordered a WINGMAN and it should be here tomorrow!! :D

So I had some money to spend and I'd been... jumping around my Wish List and since i couldn't find a flashlight/or two/ that I wanted, I went for a Wingman

I'm sooo excited, I used to be all over Leatherman before, but ordered just the key chain tools, now getting something bigger is ohhhhhh sooo cool, I wont'be able to sleep tonight, LOL.

How do you like your Wingmans??? *goes to watch WT reviews*

My wife has a Sidekick and she loves it. I have to say it is a nice tool. Pretty good for the money I think. Not heavy at all. Clips well to the pocket.

While I haven't used my Wingman for a while I love the Wingman.  The inside tools are basic but they work great IMO and for what I have used them for.  The outside opening knife and scissors are nice and both work well.  The pliers is where this tool really shines.  I really like the spring loaded pliers, heck most everyone likes them.  If you carry in a pocket the pocket clip is great.  Congrats on the Wingman  :tu:

Congrats on the wingman :salute:
It has to be said that the wingman is a both loved and hated tool. Mine had some issues with its scissors.
Its very good value for the money thoug. I gave mine to my wife, who is notorious at misusing tools. ( most notably, using kitchen knives as a pry bar. My good kitchen knives lives in a closet in another room now, so she only bends the cheap ones.) I believe the wingman gets abused quite a bit by her, but it takes it in strides, and has not failed yet.

I like the Wingman. Excellent tool lineup for use around the house/city at a pretty unbeatable price. The pocket clip makes it super convenient to carry, which is great, because you might actually have it in your pocket when you need it ;).

It's not a perfect tool, of course, but it invariably seems silly complaining about its flaws when you'd have to spend 2x as much to get something without them. I wish the scissors were slightly serrated so they gripped a bit better and didn't 'push' tougher material away as readily. That's probably my biggest gripe and it's hardly a fatal flaw.

Thanks guys! :D I chose it exactly because it's cheap(er) (Due to all the import & whatnot VAT & crap taxes it gets quite expensive in my country) and I didn't wanna spend loooots of money on something I won't use that much. But in the same time I wanted a bigger MT, not just my P(S)4s, Styles, Micra and so on... I'm not picky, so I guess I'll like it. And it'd better be drop-proof!

I really liked my wingman. The spring loaded pliers and the ergonomic curved handles are awesome, and the "package opener" tool got used a lot. Three things I wish my charge has!

My big issue is the pliers. Compared to the Wave, the handles are bigger and slipperier. Every time I relax my grip to open the jaws, the tool slips backwards out of my hand.  The wire cutters are also the second worst I own after the Dime.  That said, I use it a lot.  The scissors are great, and I get a surprising amount of use out of the wire stripper.

Congrats on moving to  larger tool. I'm very curious how well it'll suit your needs.

While the wire cutters are difficult, I almost never need to cut wire, so it's a minor thing. I'm also picky about scissors, and find the Wingman's only 'good', which for me, isn't good enough.

The rest of the tool seems pretty robust, and has performed very well for anything I've thrown at it.

I think the Wingman is an excellent entry level MT to start with. The OP may find bigger tools too heavy to suit his tastes. The Wingman will be a economical & very practical way to find out.

Heey, YOU. Don't you dare try making me buy another tool. :D

Thaks guys :D LOL. What, do you think I'm addicted to something? Are you telling me I have a problem with buying stuff? Are you talking to ME?  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

@Lynn, thanks :D I also like the scissors from what I've seen on YouTube. And I used the scissors of the smaller tools a lot, so I guess I'll be happy with those. Generally I don't use tools that much, so I guess I'll be happy with whatever the Wingman offers :)

:D:D Ok, it's here  :mail:

BUT. It's a little dirtyish.... I guess  it's been oiled with something and just gathered some dust.. It came in a box, with a tag and everything's all right. It was manufactured last year in august, so it's brrrrrand new  :multi: I'm now cleaning it with alcohol to get the nasty blacky dusty sticky stuff out. I wonder, though, if I should oil it myself?  The pliers operate very smoothly and there's where I found that dark dirty/greasy substance. But the other tools don't open and close smoothly. Also the scissors don't open perfectly and thank God I watched a video about this exactly accidentally, so I know the tool is not damaged, just the spring doesn't engage immediately

Okay, I know you've seen the tool like a hundred times, but I couldn't help taking a picture :D  :gimme:

It comes with a written warranty (agreement, rather a note) in Bulgarian, which is great.

In all its beauty....

Next to my first ever MT, the blue Micra..

Can you believe it, I even used it already... and what did I use? That useless for most people package opening hook-like thingie... and I used it to get a rubber band out of a very narrow place...

 :ahhh
