Pens that can use the fisher space pen refill
on: April 26, 2014, 05:34:00 PM
I am looking for a body to hold a fisher space pen. I love the zebra f-701 mod. And have done 2 of the mods but after a bit the pen starts to stick in the tip and if you run it with out the plastic insert there is too much play in it.
I have one of the Kara's custom pens the retrakt model. Like it but wish it was 3/8 body vs the 1/2" size.
Also would like to have the kneeling at the fingers like the zebra f-701.
Anyone have a recommendation.
Looked at the Matthew Martin pens on amazon little pricey but look very nice anyone have one?

The Parker Jotter will hold an Fisher, but you do need to use the plastic doodad.

Anything that fits a standard Parker ballpoint refill can take a Fisher refill

Not trying to be silly here, but..

Have you considered just buying a Fisher pen? There are almost two hundred pens on their website. The Bullet, Trekker, Astronaut, Cap-o-matic, and Space Shuttle are all very good pens if you like the Space Pen refill.

Have a bullet. Not good for work. Like a click pen but don't like the cap-o-matic. Have one just don't like it.
Astronaut pen is close but I don't care for the grip style they used. Find it uncomfortable as compared to other machined grips.
The other pens are either 1/2" or just don't like it.

I have some Fisher pens, and I have Carandache 849 pen. This is very solid, elegant, metal click pen, made in Switzerland. And as far as I remember the Fisher cartridges are compaitable.  I will check it tomorrow to be absolutely sure.

Yes, the Fisher cartridge is compitable with Carandache pens. But Fisher cartridge has no special plastic cap behind (take a look at the Parker catridge to understand what am I speaking about), so if you can take this cap from standart cartridge everything fits well.

I got a carandache pen. Love it.
Haven't put a fisher in it yet. But really like it.
Thanks for the help.

The surefire pen is amazing!!! It's pricey but it can literally accept any cartridge. Best pen on the market IMHO. And it's aluminum body is very stout. It's a big boy/girl pen. They make a couple different models now. I would post a link of I had one but you can just do a quick google search and find all the info you need.

It may not fit your bill but the US gov't issue Embassy Pen by Maratac uses Fisher Space Pen refill.

Substantial pen and the heaviest I ever owned (even heavier than Karas Kustoms you mentioned) but I love it to bits.  :tu:

My EDC pen is a solid stainless steel (SS) bolt-action MaxMad pen, and I only use Fisher refills in it (you have to use the plastic adapter/doodad that comes with those refills). Works like a charm and its solid SS frame can be construed as tactical (could be used as a kubaton). It has very clean/simple, elegant lines in my view. I have never had problems with it through airport security (US and international travel). :D

It looks nice, but I'm not sure it is $85 nice...

The max madco pen looks awesome. Just not sure I can justify the cost. I will think it over

Though I don't own one, I must admit it looks very nice and substantial.  However, I can't help thinking it would be a PITA to have to unscrew the cap every time you wanted to use it.

Not at all, besides most of these tactical utility and outdoor pens are like that and usually require about 1 1/2 turn to unscrew the cap.
