OK, who's taking the blame for this?
on: May 24, 2014, 12:15:16 AM
One area of tools that I was lacking in was I didn't have an axe.  Didn't think I needed one, since it's been a while since I've been camping, and when hiking a fixed-blade is always with me.  After the storms of two and three years ago, I considered getting one for helping clear downed branches and such, but figured, "Nah".  Need, however, rarely enters into acquisitions around here......  :D

This Estwing Sportsman's Axe arrived yesterday.  It's used, but in excellent shape.  What a beautifully made piece of gear.  Now I need to find something to chop........

I'm taking this opportunity to deny any and all responsibility! It's Tony's  fault!

I think we can blame Kirky by proxy somehow.

>:D

But I think that hatchet is the most mentioned model in this whole subforum. :D So partially you should be thankful to all of us for enabling you to try out this fine piece of gear.

Congrats on the new addition.

I LOVE ESTWING!!!!

Ive got the riggers axe too no pics yet.  Ive used the hell out of it and can't recommend them highly enough!  Ive been using esting axes since I was 12 and they can take abuse.   :tu:

Riggers axe

The riggers is my current go to axe for msc duty as it has the hammer head for bashing things.  Its pretty light for being all metal and I was taking down 3-4 inch saplings with 2 swings for hours.  :D

I've had this one for ten or eleven years. It has seen a fair amount of use.

Estwings are great tools.
For years I used their hammers till I started getting pain in my wrist and elbow.
Once I switched to a fiberglass handle I felt better within a couple weeks.
I still have a little leather handled 12oz and a carpenters hatchet but have given away most of my others.
I do take the hatchet camping and they are tough and relatively inexpensive.

Crap! I'm blaming all of you, now I have to have one of these. It's a conspiracy. It's like I just got mugged and Kirk and JD were the gangleaders.

Wonderful axe you have there.

I'm a big Estwing fan, my hammer has seen many years of service. The only negative is that it really hurts when I miss and hit my thumb!

I love axes but my job doesn't justify using them (and I never used the fireplace of my summer home because it is a summer home ofcourse). If I buy one I would fear that it might be used against people.
