Leatherman refers to the non metric tools as English. We,here in the States, refer to them as standard.I don't know from where Leatherman derived their term English?

Numbers 5,7,8,9,10 are listed as metric.

Numbers 1,2,3,6 are listed as English [standard].

Number 4 has no wrenches.

They still have not provided specifications for their wrenches, with the exception of #8.

Hey Leatherman, what are the sizes of bolts that your wrenches fit?

Don't keep us in suspense.LOL.

I just haven't been able to get into one piece tools, except the "key" type, like this Proto screwdriver.

However, pairing Number 1 with a Number 8 would give me a better Phillips and large driver, while covering both sizes of bolts. It seems like a small band slipped around the cap lifter would keep them flat together and with the same profile, so as not to add too much clutter on a keychain. I'll have to think about these... :-\

I saw that. Was their tax?

I hate to ask, but I might have to commission one of you to order me some and hold on to them until I get moved.

I just ordered a set of all of them.  Free shipping, but I was charged Sales Tax.  Odd.  California Sales Tax charged by an Oregon based company/sale.

I will post a picture or two when I receive them.

It normally does not matter where the company is based but where the order is coming from. Very cool on ordering the whole set. I am so tempted to do that myself, but I don't really have the cash. I really just want a #4.

Internet Sales Tax rules are being frequently debated with many states adopting the Amazon Tax.

Previously, a purchase from a retailer outside of the state of the buyer would not be taxed unless the retailer had an office or location within the buyers state as well.  With the Amazon Tax rule, many larger retailers have begun to collect sales tax regardless of location in anticipation of a US government ruling.

Unless Leatherman has an office in California, this was the first internet purchase for me that I've noticed this participation in the new rule.

First thoughts

No specs, bad Leatherman! Bad!
The number five is limited, but they don't say if the others are.

I like the concepts and I'll probably order one if they are still there in a few weeks. I hope they all go into general production, honestly. Make them a standard catalog item, stay at that price, this could seriously fill a lot of people's desire for a tool that has the function of Pete Atwood's designs without issue of them being built specifically for and marketed pretty much solely to the collectors.

But... I'm not going to hold my breath. Leatherman seems to be following a business model that could be described as "how tick off your customers" these days. :(

Without specs I was reluctant to order all of them.So I opted for two,one in standard and one in metric.

No tax.

I'm anxious for a review of these gadgets from one of our members.

I agree.
Prototypes or beta tests,,,,,ALWAYS include the specs! :tu:

Plus, I do agree with the fact that Atwood is only targeting his collectors.  I've given up trying to get them.

I also agree that LM needs to improve its Marketing Department.  If it wasn't for this thread, I would have never known they existed.  They have some Facebook pages to their name.  And these pocket tools weren't even mentioned.  Now if they posted on those pages:"Test selling new design pocket tool, limited run, first come-first serve,,,blah,,blah,,,blah"

I have no problem there.  Fair enough.  But accidentally "tripping" onto a new product is starting to get irritating.  And if LM isn't careful, they may pi$$ off and alienate those who've bought their product and made LM what it is!

I'll get off my soapbox now.

When Juli worked for Leatherman, things were a lot better. I had an in, and it was great. It was nice to send off an email or a PM and get nice and quick responses that were very helpful. The last few times I phoned or emailed Leatherman, I got not so helpful responses. Often time, not getting an answer to my questions.

I wonder what has changed at Leatherman lately to make the company feel so out of touch? I am one of their best customers. You would think that would get me more than a brush off.

I don't understand why they dont have a presence here?  Hell we are a captive and willing audience and I know there are several who would love to beta test the crap out of any tool they feel the need to create.

HAHA agreed.  I wont be putting the tool into use myself as the croc has been a decent tool for what I've asked of it.  I thought the price was fair and if they should abandon the "line" then it'd be neat to have one of the "defects" in my collection.  Dude you had me LMAO with that description

Leatherman refers to the non metric tools as English. We,here in the States, refer to them as standard.I don't know from where Leatherman derived their term English?

Over here we refer to them as Metric and Imperial.
Or "I have a spanner for that" and "oh bloody hell why have they used a stupid old fashioned fastener I'll have to go back to the workshop and find something".
It gets really confusing with all the different permutations of Imperial bolts you get, we have racks of the sodding things. More boxes than the Metric area of the workshop but covering a smaller range of sizes. You can still never find what you need though.

I do keep both Metric and Imperial adjustables handy though, you can never know which one you'll need.

8 variation of one idea, one slightly different and one different tool. 8 variations and all of them have a cap-lifter :ahhh.
Basically, I think its a good idea to ask which design their clients prefer BUT I question their method a poll would have been more efficient.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

In terms of the Cap lifter on these BTN tools, they seem to be made with the same shape as the Brewzer/Piranha/Croc. Which means they could also be used to hold a 1/4" hex bit or turn a 1/4" hex nut or bolt if needed.

I get that some people don't like cap lifters (as they can be redundant), but it's there and doesn't have to be used or thought of as useless. One could always take a round file and or dremel grinder (rotary) tool to turn it into a belt/strap cutter.
