I've never used an axe, but does anyone else think this won't be secure? Might work as an axe-head launcher.

Looks like a interesting idea. Im unsure of how well the locking mechanism will hold up to repeated use. But I havent tried  one, so it might hold up just fine.  Time will show.

I dont use axes but weren't the American Indian axed held on by leather strapping??
I'd think this has been tested and coming from such an experienced inventor and tool maker it would hold up given it's intended use parameters.  What the heck do I know?  It certainly is interesting to say the least.

The real question is who will buy one and do a proper testing?????  Anyone, Anyone, Bueller, Bueller???

If you just carry the metal axe head, you still need to prepare a handle. That's not so easy to do without other tools.

If you already carry the handle, I'd prefer to have an already assembled axe.

It's a bit contradictory because the Kickstarter includes the handle, with special notches for the head to grip. That I can believe, but now you've just got a folding axe. Gizmodo says you can use ANY stick, which seems risky.

The Feller is the only one I'm interested in.

The mechanically one, too complicated, too many moving parts, all of them taking every single blow. And the one with the cut outs, I'm concerned it will weaken the blade. And a titanium axe... uhm... Ti can't take the edge steel can and it doesn't have the mass. Light to carry but too light to use makes it too heavy to carry- or is there something I'm missing here?

Yes the Ti one is silly for exactly the reasons you stated.

If you want a cheap good option for handle-less axe, a cold steel trail hawk is excellent and cheap.  As a test Ive used the axe head to make a handle and it works very well.  That is, if your goal is to just carry an axe head for size constraint.

Its much easier to handle a tomahawk like this as well since it doesn't need a slit and notches, you just stick it on the handle.  The taper of the eye holds it in place.

I put the klax in the, its interesting but no way Id want one category.  They way I use axes and hatchets, that thing would break in no time.  Very weak points on the clamp mechanism.  AND they stick out on the side.  That would catch on the work and not be a good chopper.  To me this is a complex solution to a problem I dont have.
