best small keychain light
on: June 11, 2014, 06:20:43 PM
I'm going to redo my keychain and I'm pondering adding a small light. Something smaller than aaa

I always edc a light so this will be a backup

Size and reliability are my two biggest concerns

I would like something very small but rugged. It has to work when I need it.

I own a led lenser K2 I just might use but id like to know what else is out there I might not be aware of.

also
I'm not to sure how the exposed bulb in the k2 would hold up on my keys.
and
I don't think it is very water proof. I end up soaked alot more than I like.

thanks in advance

ja

I'm not sure yet how bullet proof they are -exactly-, but I just got this one:

Veleno Designs Quantum D2

And they seem to be quite popular. It certainly is really small  :tu:

that looks like what I'm looking for but the price is a little high for me.

I should have stated a price I'd like to spend.

under 25.oo would be great.

I'm still adding that one to my list of maybes.

it looks like a awesome little light.

It's pretty cool indeed  :tu:

With the quantum tunneling thingy (is that what it's called?) you can set the brightness stepless, the further you turn, the brighter the light gets, that's quite cool. Comes with a battery and a charger, too. And, it's seriously small, and actually really quite bright, too :) I'll make a  pic for size....

Bookmarked their site in my browser. I've been seeing pics of those little lights posted pretty frequently and have wondered what they were. I might have to get one of those  :o

I think I'm going to have to do some saving.

I got to see 120 lumens from such a tiny little light myself.

The Quantum D2 looks nice...I too have it bookmarked ;)
How about the Olight i1
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OLIGHT-i1-EOS-Cree-XM-L-CR123A-Flashlight-Torch-/160637275185?pt=US_Flashlights&hash=item2566ba4c31
Decent price, compact size, would double as a spare CR123 cell carrier :tu:

I have D2 myself...

As a backup on my keychain... And it is pretty awesome Joel. It's worth saving up...

Every once in a while they pop up on some BST that's how I got mine.

Other neat thing is they come with small battery charger for USB... So one more + in my book while I have almost constant laptop with me.

Have you checked out 47's ATOM line? Neat lights also... IMHO A0 is spot on your budget though it uses AAA smaller model (ATOM ALR2) uses CR2 battery but is bit over your budget (stated at 25$)...

Overall if you are patient 40-ish can bring D2 to you as LNIB or MINT condition + spare battery and maybe some extra or go for ATOM...

That said I do not have ATOM (supposedly there are models in Titanium) but I can vouch for D2.

Hope this helps

It's one I keep meaning to get, very similar spec as the 4Sevens Quark MiNi 123 I have which is my favourite light, tiny but super bright :tu:
Great thing about CR123 cells is they can sit for years and not lose their charge meaning it's there when you need it...I'm guessing the Quantum D2 battery will lose it's charge over time which is not good for a back up light ;)

I'm gonna ask my Mrs. if she can get cr2 batteries from her work.

that will make my decision easier.

I get a great deal on cr123s

if she can't I think I'm gonna go with the d2.

its so small and packs a punch I have to try one.

and there goes my budget out the window again

I ordered some CR2 batteries from batteryjunction.com for about $2 ea. They're not as common as 123's though and I had to wait for them on backorder...

The D2 is a nice looking light, the kind of light you could wear as a pendent on a chain or leather lace :tu:

Another little light I've wanted to try is the Thrunite Ti Key, nowhere near as powerful as the D2 but small enough to always be with you for emergencies ;)

It went from page not found to this yesterday. I've tried to complete the check out yesterday and today and still no shipping options.

They never had free shipping though, the cheapest one was something like 2-3 USD and going to 30-40 USD for the Express options. I think it's actually a one man site, run by Ric, a member on a few flashlight related forums. Very reliable though and usually fast shipping times.
