Well,guess what?

I've got a 'Droid!

Zed will be well pleased,it's a Huawei Y300. Turns out my dad bought one with his Necter points, and can't get on with it!

I'll see how it pans out...if I can't get on with it,I'm going retro with the 3310!

I ordered a 3310 this morning,as, in two months,I've come to both hate and loath the Y300 and Android as an operating system!

I'm glad I've done this,as it proves I'm not a smart phone person! The Huawei came very close to being shot in fustration!

Well,it's a good MP3 player, great camera, but it sucks as a phone. I've missed tons of calls because I couldn't figure out how to answer it(got that sorted, but still...it just takes to long to figure it out),have issues terminating calls(have on more than occasion simply had to switch the phone off!), now it's started making calls of its own accord

It may just be that I'm too dumb for a smart phone

Don't worry Paul, the Y300 just kinda dropped into my lap,it only cost incidentals. In going back to the 3310, it's like giving up MTs in favour of a full time small Tinker :tu:

I'm coming round to the conclusion that maybe a smart phones not for me too :(

Mine is only a budget smart phone (Moto E) and I've been impressed with how capable it is, but I worry constantly about it discharging its battery too fast (I am proper neurotic about it actually!) As for me a phone should principally be a communication device :D

So I'm due an upgrade and I'm thinking of getting a Nokia 515 as it has a good level of spec while not needing to waste power of a touch screen and a quad core processor plus I can actually swap batteries too!

Does anyone know of any comparable phones at all? Needs to be candybar, have a 5mp camera and be 3G with a decent mp3 though :)

Not that this is much help in your search for a new device but... In the past I found disabling WIFI and Bluetooth when not needed is a big help for battery life as well as lowering screen brightness.

I think most new devices are very "smart" with how they handle CPU usage, and it may not make a difference in having a dual/single vs a quad as it's only really draining more when it's actually using that grunt (and making the user experience you have better) to load things faster (so actually not really much of a change, more battery in a short period vs longer lower usage otherwise).

Also check for unneeded apps running. I run Clean Master on my phone which allows you to clear ram/storage of junk files. I also found it to be a decently easy way to uninstall/disable preloaded apps that I have no interest in using. It also has some sort of boost that supposedly gives me 20-25% boost in games when using their launcher, not sure how well it actually works as both my devices are Quad core Nexus devices... and I mostly only have games on my tablet.
The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer.

I'll do that :) I did pull the trigger on the 515 as it just seems right for me and my weird ocd like obsession with long run times :/ The lack of WiFi doesn't worry me as I have a tablet (both getting very old though!) at my flat and at my girlfriends so rarely need to be on the internet in between if ever :)

I did turn of all the unneeded radios on all my phones, but rarely got more than 2 days out of both the HTC Windows phone or out of the Moto E before getting to 60% and I just had to charge it out of paranoia! :)

I will use that app on my phones and tablets though :)

Wait, what happened to technosorcery and all that?

I used to be obsessed with battery life as well,  but once I realized it defeats the purpose of paying good money for a fancy piece of technology I no longer care. I charge every night anyway, doesn't matter if it was 80% or 20%.
