BG mini fail
on: June 12, 2014, 05:59:46 PM
I was kindly given a BG mini pliers by another forum member. It is a neat little unit, and I've EDC'd it for a couple of weeks.

I tried to use the pliers yesterday at work to fix a garden gate and they failed. I didn't put too much pressure on them IMO but here's what happened;

I'm pretty sure they can't be fixed.

All I can say is I'm glad I didn't pay for them!

Back to square one with pliers now.

Thanks again though to Millhouse for his generosity.  :salute:

they will probably give you a new one.  I used their warranty one time, with great results.
If I can help, let me know

I doubt they will say no. I have said it before and I will say it again. Gerbers warranty beats Leatherman and Victorinox hands down.

Thanks for the info - I think I'll make use of that great warranty.

I'm on the lookout for a tougher keychain MT though - I can see this one failing again.

Hmmm...

I'd send it to Bear Grylls for his next show with a little side note "Survive with this mate!!"

Maybe he has some ingenious MT repair technique using bamboo, banana leaf and plastic bag...

Oh dear.

I would warranty it. This is dealt with by Silva Ltd, Gerber's UK distributor.

I was hoping you'd use it, just to see what the tool was capable of.

Personally, I'd get an LM Squirt PS4.

If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

Cheers Millhouse - I think I may have a P4 sorted out - will know more Monday.

The Gerber is anice idea but it is a bit flimsy. I hope the P4 is more substantial.

Isn't the breaking the expected outcome? So its not really a failure, its worked as expected / designed :P
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I used Gerbers warranty once and it was a fantastic experience.  The pocketclip on my gerber octane got caught on my keys which got caught on the car door I was getting out of.  The clip bent so much that it cracked when I bent it back into place.  I called gerber and no questions asked or even proof that I had ever bought a gerber they mailed out a new clip in days.
