how/why does this happen ?
on: June 16, 2014, 06:25:55 PM
I am now the proud owner of an Olight i3s it's loverly especially as I've been toying with getting one, and this was a 'Fathersday prezzie' which didn't arrive till this morning (god bless the mailman  :ahhh)

Here's the rub, I have now noticed what can only be described as a 'COLLECTION' forming  :poh:
mostly AAA or AA torches and head lamps , I tried NOT to do this !!!
It all started with a harmless purchase of an LED lenser a while back, I've had 'maglights' in the past but things have improved out there so I needed to 'upgrade'  I WAS happy or so I though
or so I thought !
I now have at least 6 of them smashing little b***ers  (mainly P3's and a P5 a P7  and an H3) a couple of other small torches that I'm not sure of their makers. Then came a couple of Fenix (eo1 &eo5) now I'm on to Olights (guess who's fault that was  )
I'm having a DE JA VU ! SAK's Multitools fixblades Axes chopper/machete type things and camping stoves to name but a few things !!!!

where does it all end  ?

The I3s is a great little torch.  I also have amassed a small army of little AA and AAA torches as well.  I feel having several torches of varying output is important so the collection grows in my case.  I especially like the ultra low lumen paired with a nice medium mode 15-25.

I've reasoned having several readily available torches is advantageous as one serves as my go to, the other is back up,  and the third is my battery holder .  Light the way TD  :salute:

it was the 'low' lumen output/run time that sucked me in (this time)
I have carried a P3 as my EDC (junk always in my pocket*) and find use it almost daily, most often at night  while walking the dog, but it's come in handy for many things. I was truly impressed by how long the batteries lasted....
I really didn't need anything more  :D

Have you tried any ThruNite torches yet?  Very good lights and readily available from Amazon.

You now need a lumen monster. Something that can pump out 1000 lumens.
If you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck.

My comment was made in jest. Wasn't suggesting you need or get one.

I just prefer a lower lumen longer lasting light. I think more lumens is not necessarily better.

Speaking of Thrunite and 1000 lumen; http://www.amazon.co.uk/ThruNite%C2%AE-Flashlight-Version-Output-Waterproof/dp/B00I2H2BQE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1403074852&sr=8-2&keywords=thrunite

It might not lob those lumen out there as well as a large reflector light, but it's hard not to like the quality/lumen/price ratio.  I have the previous generation of TN12 and I have to say I'm a fan.

Note: in no way have I suggested that Taxi Day should buy this, especially if MrsTD is reading this. ;)

I have really REALLY been staying away from the Li- ion cell lights as this would open up a whole new beginning for me.  Eneloops so far have treated me right BUT Enki and others posted recently about the nitecore charger and I've been looking and looking and looking.  Dagnabbit I can't stop looking at Li-ion lights but I'll need to first do a little info gathering before.......... IF, IF I get into them

If you want to dip your toe in the Li-ion pond, grab a couple of 14500 cells and charger. Throw one of them in a compatible AA light and stand back.

I have a couple of single AA lights that are happy with 3.6V and the increase in light output over alkaline/NiCad/NiMH is startling.

Thanks  :salute: I've been on this darn fence with Li-ion for a while now.  I really like the ease of the Nitecore charger which would make keeping me cells ready to go without much fuss.
