Gerber Multitool Multi-Plier 600 - Bladeless?
on: June 22, 2014, 07:02:07 PM
How new is it?
Any one have one yet?
No one seems to have any instock at this time. :(

http://www.gerbergear.com/Industrial/Tools/MP600-Bladeless_30-000952

I don't believe there is any other MP600 that contains replaceable Tungsten Carbide wire cutters, replaceable RemGrit saw, file and scissors all together.

I want one. :D

I seem to have found a place that shows one of there stores have them instock.
Going to give them a call tomorrow to see if I can confirm that is really the case before I order one.

Just placed the order. I have ordered from this place before and can be about 99% sure that if they show it in stock at one of their location that they do infact have them.

Anway I should find out this Wed. for sure. :)

My first MT was a Gerber. Think I purchased it back in 1988. After Leatherman came out with the Original Wave I switched over to being a Leatherman fan boy.

I'm excited to see this new Gerber bladeless model come out now as I aways have a Spyderco Dragon fly knife that I EDC anyway.

This Gerber maybe the one that turns the Leatherman/Gerber tables for me.

This is an opportunity for Gerber if they take advantage, to reach a huge untapped market.

I like this tool.

I carry a folding knife so my tool really doesn't need one.

way to go Gerber  :tu:

Exactly. :tu:  I've always got a folder on me.  I can't even think of the last time I used the blade on an MT, with the exception of my ALX.  Right now I'm gathering the courage to combine my MP400 and 450 into a bladeless 425.  I'll have to get my hands on this 600.....

If they ever do a bladeless version of the MP400 I think we can take at least some credit. :D

The blades on the MP600s I've got are pretty rubbish anyway and take such a long time to get at it's no great loss.
It's also a huge win in many scenarios.

I'd probably buy one.

Leatherman please?  :pok:

Yea, I saw this the other day. I am thinking seriously about getting one (depending on price). I don't have an MP600 and think I would like one to go with BO MP400. We'll have to see - I am completely, hopelessly torn on weather to get an OHT or an MP600.

If only they would give us a blunt nose version...

You have already spent to much time thinking about it. There is only one sensible thing to do at this point. Get both! :D

My MP600 - Bladeless should be here in about 12 hours. :)

I am sure I will end up with both. I guess I should have specified "which one should I get first".

I didn't realize anyone had them in stock yet. Where did you find it and for how much?

I purchased it from Grainger at a premium price, but what ever. :D

http://www.grainger.com/product/GERBER-Multi-Tool-19YH58?s_pp=false&picUrl=//static.grainger.com/rp/s/is/image/Grainger/19YH58_AS01?$smthumb$

Received it today and it's awesome except for one thing. The black comes off all over my hands like crazy! This is the first black MT I have ever owned so I'm not sure if it's normal for the black finish to come off like that and if so how long it does.

Well working my hands are often greasy, oily, sweaty, etc... I can only images this will cause the black finish to come off even more.

The photos I have seen of it show more of a polished black finish, but mine is more of a dull/flat black finish.

Can anyone tell me what to expect from the black finish long term?

Thanks,

I own several gerber BO tools and I've never had a problem with the black coming off on my hands. Maybe they're doing something different  ???

For what it's worth, you really do want the flat black finish over the polished. It's a better coating even if some of it is rubbing off being new.

That Grainger price seems a little high but at least they're available to buy.

Yes, the Grainger price was very high. As for the black coming off, it don't seem to be coming off where you notice it coming off the tool, just notice it on your hands.

Just spent a few minute wiping it down with a rag and some gun oil. The black finish seem to no longer come off on my hands now. Maybe it was just some black dust residue or something from being new.

Anyway here are some photos of it. :)

Awesome! I am really stoked about this tool - as someone mentioned earlier, it is basically a BO ProScout with carbide cutters (sans blade). When the price comes down, I may have to pull the trigger.

Congrats on your new tool!

One could always do a plier head swap to put a blunt-nose plier head on that bladeless body if needed.

Congrats on your new tool!

Large flathead, too, which Pro Scouts don't have.

Given how much I like the Pro Scout, I'll probably buy one of these if I can get it at a reasonable price...

I got a blunt nose mp600 I'm waiting to do a review on.

if this bladeless one came out in blunt nose I would buy it asap.

I love the inside tool set.

hell after my mp600 review is over I just might get one and swap pliers.
its about perfect for me.
