July 2014 Donation Draw
on: July 03, 2014, 12:08:08 PM
I always try to come up with something interesting for the Donation Draw- after all, if I want folks to part with their hard earned money I need a bloody good reason for it.  Doing a Donation Draw in July each year is difficult because we have so much other stuff going on that it's almost impossible to find something that can completely stand out.  I have to admit, I was at a complete loss as to what could be special enough to give away this month, when a dashing chap from Oz reappeared with such an amazing offer that I couldn't say no.

Yup, a discontinued Leatherman Hybrid!  Trust me, that is cool all by itself, but the back story makes it even cooler!  You see, this particular Hybrid isn't just any old discontinued and hard to fine Leatherman, this one has been personally been handled by Tim Leatherman, as this photo proves:

Now some of you might be thinking this is a leftover from the Pilgrimage that MTO members embarked on a few years ago, but you'd be wrong to think that.  You see, Tim was so impressed with Mat during that pilgrimage that Tim had to see Mat in his natural environment and traveled all the way to Oz to shake Mat's hand in a completely different colored MTO shirt!

Oh yeah, and did I mention that Tim scribbled a little something on this particular Hybrid, specifically for MTO members?  :D

So how do you win this?  The same as every other month- simply donate a minimum of ten US dollars to the site's Operational Fund which you can see on the right (at least in full browser versions), by clicking the DONATIONS tab at the top or by following this link:

MTO Treasury

Make sure you sign your name- if you donate anonymously I can't pick your name as a winner since I don't know who you are!  At the end of the month I'll find some way to randomly pick a winner, and each ten dollars (or equivalent) that you donate gets you a chance to win.  If we don't hit our monthly goal (which I doubt will be an issue this month!) then I'll put this one away for another contest some other time.  If we hit the goal of $275 before midnight on the 15th (Server Offset time of course) I'll add in an Early Bird prize, which I'll warn you now isn't going to be great, but should be reasonably interesting.

Read enough yet?  Good for you, have another picture- you earned it!

I'd also like to point out one teeny little thing with this one- not only is it a discontinued model.  Not only are these getting hard to find.  Not only is this one signed by Tim Leatherman.  There's one more interesting little tidbit about this one- Tim dated it as 2/3/04 when in fact it was signed on 2/3/14.  Yup, this one has an official Tim Leatherman Typo on it as well!

Good luck to everyone!  :D

Wow wow wow wow wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!     So let's see.  An awesome discontinued LM, signed by the man himself to MT.O, and with a typo?  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh   I don't have any tools that I don't use, but if I won this, it would only be handled gently.

The Early Bird Draw is always a secret.  So secret, even I usually don't know what it is until the last minute...

The Double Donation Prize will be announced shortly- I think we figured out a plan for that, but I'll be darned if I can recall what it was.  We have a lot of stuff flying around this month so I might be kind of confused...

I guess I need to announce the Double Donation Prize then!

I'll be picking two names, one to win the Autographed Leatherman Hybrid, and the Double Donation Prize will be a Gerber Groundbreaker!

These are photos taken at SHOT 2012, so the actual one might be slightly different when it arrives.  :D

If this thing isn't a transformer toy for adults I don't know what is!

I'll make the Early Bird Draw tomorrow- remember, winning the Early Bird Draw doesn't take your name out of the running for either of the Donation Draw prizes!
