How many members from down under have we got?
on: July 09, 2014, 11:09:38 AM
I've seen a few Aussies on here, I don't think I've seen any other Kiwi's but I'm sure they're around.

I'm curious. How many members have we got from down under?

You northern hemisphere types may have it all wrong (again !) - IIRC according to astronomers when you take the big picture (looking at Galaxies) the southern hemisphere is actually the "UP" side of the earth when you orient correctly to the rest of the universe (or something like that, anyway)  :pok:  :pok:  :pok:

It's dark outside right now, but I'm certain I will see exactly the same thing tomorrow - for both of us "down" is towards the centre of our planet, just some flat-earth types haven't figured out the whole spherical planet & direction of gravity thing.  I guess I could make allowances if you lived in a country where something like 70% of the population doesn't believe in evolution, but you don't, so you can't use that excuse  :pok:  :pok:  :pok:

Heretic.
I was in NZ once. They have only walking birds Kiwi and lots of Penguins. Its all evolution and science. Birds that did fly down into the sky from underneath the earth disk have a much greater chance of never getting back up to ground but fall down into space, so they got extinct. Here, what goes up must come down. Australia has the Emu, Africa has the ostrich, do you really need more proof?

I won't argue with that "logic" (I'm not sure I know where to start  ;) ).  But you have to admit that even the most rabid flat-earther has to respect an overgrown chook that can disembowel you with one kick (and watch out for cassowaries, they are big AND stroppy).

Well, that might have been very close. Birds and reptiles are quite closely related, feathers and scales are evolutionary homologues (they are two chips from the same block of wood). Also, there is some evidence that at least some (see thats more theoretical than the earth disk) of the dinos had feathers or probably an ancestral form of feathers.
