I don't really have a mess kit, and I do have an Eat’N Tool already, so I will sit this one out.  Thanks CRKT for providing this, and thanks MT.O for hosting this GAW.

That's unfortunate timing, I just gave all my mess kit away last month.
It was as basic as you could get.

Set of British Army mess tins
Osprey 58 pat. water bottle & mug
"NATO" knife, fork & spoon set
IKEA hobo stove & back up hexi cooker.

Here's my mess kit I use backpacking. It's made by GSI outdoors. I really like their products and have many of them. It includes many cool features. I like the nesting cups/ bowls, and their width makes them impossible to spill. The kit also includes my stove and can even fit a small fuel canister made by MSR for it. It's also for two people which is great since I usually go on two person trips.

It's actually my own mess kit I used while I was in the army...

Ah, the infamous JNA porcija. :D

I have a few of those knives but never had a porcija as I'm a bit too young for the time when they were issued. Never tried to get it as I've heard that the canteen and plastic cup were too brittle. What's your take on it?

I never had any problems with my kit, nor did I hear that someone had troubles with plastic bits...
I was so satisfied with my mess kit, that I recently bought another one, brand new, and I keep it as a spare.

I've often seen these advertised as "Yugoslavian Mess Kit" (must be a while since there was a Yugoslavian Army).
Very tempted to try it as £9.99 seems a very good price for what you get.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Yugoslavian-Knife-Spoon-pouch-canteen/dp/B009MYKPIW

I suppose I'm too set in my ways now & automatically go for the British Army kit as I used it for so many years.

Yup, that's the one.
One of the mess tins is made from aluminium alloy, other parts are made from plastic, but very durable.
From time to time, on some of our local Craigslist and such sites, it's possible to buy this mess kit made completely out of aluminium, for less than 20 euros...

I hate this type of mess-kit. Our was full metal/alu, so it didn´t break - but due to it´s form every meal went from separate parts into a stewlike blob.  ::)
Have fun.

Bye,
Michael

Big thanks to CRKT for this giveaway.

This is some of our open fire gear.
Folding wire rack, three prong fork, enamel pot and an old stove pot stand.
Wonder where the kids have left the second pot and other forks?

This tray comes with to the river, beach, mountains etc as our carpark kit.

There is a couple gas cookers, pots, lighters, windbreak and benchtop etc.

This is the set I use for bushcrafting/camping.
Just a simple Stanley kit. Nothing fancy.

The fork did not come with it. I made that with my Mora Bushcraft.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I'm not entering the contest but I did want to show off my latest set up.  I haven't had a chance to do much with it yet but here's my Bio Lite stove, Primus LiTech pot and pan set, a standard Eat'n Tool and an Eat'n Tool XL.

As soon as I get a day off I'll be heading out to the woods to enjoy lunch in nature with this set- and I have an interesting test for the Bio Lite!

An Eat'n Tool seems nice, but I can't enter this contest (so I can remain eligible for WildJ3's flicky giveaway ).

Anyway I wanted to share to you my unexpectadly good hobo knife @ work.
It's some no-name Chinese thing and the seller tried to sell me a more expensive klunky Chinese thing instead. Anyway. This proved perfect for what I needed. I have it for several months: easy to clean, good locking, good blade, good scales, no specks of rust - miles in front of every other hobo knife I had before:

Just wanted to show off a bit, I'm not going to enter the draw though. I would look pretty silly with a purple spork at a renaissance fair

Nevertheless thanks CRKT :salute:

Here's an overview of my humble array ...

First up is the least used of them all

The pouch contains a modified Crusader Cup ensemble. The hexi burner and teflon coated cup are there, as is the BCB lid (which really does make a difference), but inside the neoprene jacket is a non-standard filter bottle with one of the torturous path filters that gets everything out. Oh, and a couple of pouches of greenheat alcohol gel too

Next up ...

I do also have a Nato mug, and a small Ti mug from Northland Professional

A lot of people use titanium as camp cookware due to how light it is, not paying attention to how much extra weight in fuel they need to carry to compensate for it's really poor heat conduction. I prefer to use it to keep my cuppa warm  :D

Here's the Nato mug on it's own

Keeping on the military theme ...

... the instantly recognisable (for many people) army trangia set, complete with the billy can pot, windshield, pan/lid and solid brass trangia burner. I got rid of the crappy little fuel bottle immediately, but this stove has done a lot of work for me. It was one of my first outdoor cooksets, and I think it's bloody marvellous

Going very civilian now with the nice robust stainless steel MSR Seagull. This too comes with it's own burner.

Thw Wild Woodgas Stove. Excellent little stove which burns twigs very very efficiently, and does also accomodate the trangia or sterno or other alcohol stove (and serve as a good windshield) if needed. Here it is fully assembled

My personal favourite is probably still the jetboil. I tend to use it more for drinks than cooking, but I have made the odd meal or two with it though.
