3d Philips bit on wave.
on: July 18, 2014, 11:23:34 PM
So now that I can dump the internal scissors I have to fill a space. Have a rebar awl already in there and the flat bit. Was thinking of grinding the 3d bit out of my donor rebar to fit. Will it close with my rebar pliers head? Seen it done with standard wave pliers but not rebar.

You'll have to snap the plier rest off but otherwise I'm guessin it will fit.

I wanted the scissors full length on the Charge so I also removed the knife lock but I don't think you'll need to do that.

I tried it once... I'm fairly certain you'll have to do some grinding on the 3D Phillips driver to allow full closure of the tool (in addition to snapping off the plier rest).

Let us know how it turns out! :salute:

So i snapped off the pliers rest/blade lock thing that keeps the knife closed then the tool is being used. Problem is now my tool lock is loose and the tools won't lock. Didn't relize when I snapped the pliers rest off that it would mess with the tool lock. Anyone done this and had a fix for it? I think I can just put a new smaller rivet in perhaps? I know people snapped this off on the surges to put st300 heads in...

Lol, I think it will all fit in no problem now.
Reused or replace the rivet and fasten down the lock spring.
A few photos of whats going on would be good.
Don't worry, it is all fixable.
And if needed I could probably take a few photos after work.

nice work! :tu: how'd you fix the locking issue? were you able to reuse/replace the rivet holding the blade pin mechanism in place?

Just reused the rivet by smashing it it down to make it secure. Adding some final touches now. It is a bit gritty, so im pulling it all apart again and polishing the pivot area and lubing it well.

glad to hear it! it's nice to know that can be repaired. ;)

I can't believe there was no grinding required on the Phillips driver... I might have to give this another shot!

Well not the locking system, just the little safety things that keep the knives closed while the pliers are open... Was a pretty simple repair once I studied it some more.  Yup the key is just bit placement to get the 3d bit to fit along with the bit driver. You have to remove two tools to do this though. I chose can opener and the mini bit driver(since you can just put it where the pocket clip goes..) I have pics throught this modded and other mods I have done. Trying to build a how to on this. Just a heads up this is no where near a perfect mod. The bits fit pretty dang tight, but feel like they will and have loosened up with some working of the tools. I may also replace the flat driver the wave came with, and install the longer smaller one from the rebar for recessed places.

when I tried it, I think I removed the large bit driver and had the 3D Phillips placed next to the can opener... maybe some mixing and matching would help?

like I said, this was awhile ago, so I should probably give it another shot. :)

I wonder if it was sitting on the little bump that stops the tools lock tab from being pressed in too far?

hmmm... you could be right, zoidberg. I'll keep an eye out when I try this again. my modding skills have improved quite a bit since the last time I attempted this. ;)

The large Phillips should go by the can opener or the small bit driver, the large flat driver is thicker.
