The Chronicles of Mr Blunt
on: July 21, 2014, 12:11:43 AM
The Chronicles of Mr Blunt

Aka my Gerber Mp600 30 day review.

I've used/worked with a few Gerber tools before and all were quality tools except the last one. A made in China suspension that I snapped the pliers off of the first day I carried it.

I want to do this review hoping there made in usa tools are still as good as I remember them being 10 years ago.

Thanks Saw   :hatsoff:

The tool load out is a little dissapointing.  All its tools seem to be made well but it has a definite lack of some inside tools I normally carry "saw, metal saw, awl " .

I really like the serrated blade it came razor sharp it also has on this side a useless lanyard ring, short but stout looking Phillips and a can opener I probably will never use.

The plane edge blade seems odd to me and will take some getting used too . The metal file lacks a saw but looks like it should work well also on this side are 3 different size flat heads one with a bottle opener

That's one thing about the MP600, the tool loadout is lacking but the tools it does offer are top notch IMO. I love the wharncliffe blade although they could have made it a little longer.

The thing I like best about it is its pliers, however, the replaceable cutters are not quite as good as those on the Rebar/ST300.

I've been eagerly awaiting this review for some time. I'm sure you'll give a great go of it Joel :tu:

I'm happy to be reviewing it Steve

All I can say so far is

it seems like a very well built tool.

I'm picky

I haven't seen any flaws in its fit and finish

All the tools lock Up well and the lock is easy to use.

It should be a great work tool but I'm going to need to pair it with

the right sak to get the tools I like to keep on me.

I know there are CONS about the replaceable wire cutters on this model,  but a PRO is they are 3 sided, so you can take a notch out, and just spin them 120 degrees   :D

Do you have a wrench for removing the cutter's screws? With mine, they came attached in the sheaths.

Add me to the list of people who thought the title meant something else.

I'm happy to see the bluntnose getting some love. I should of never sold off mine. I'm sure you will love it. The love for the MP400 and MP600 is hard to describe, but I heard a description that explains it the best. I think it was Powernoodle who refereed to it as the AK47 of Multitools.  :tu:

I'm just getting my gear ready for tomorrow.

Mr Blunt will be living in a skinith shield with a Leatherman Es4 , pocket wrench 2, Chapman ratchet,  some 1/4 bits and extension.

I'LL also be pocket carrying a sak to try make up for Mr Blunt's lack of tools .

well I guess we will see how he works tomorrow.
