  • I may get older but I refuse to grow up.
As I said, Gingrich Tactical sent us a few items to celebrate our 8th anniversary and give the cool gear to you.

You can check out his custom stuff, axes and knives on his WEBSITE

Well, as we have a decorative hawk giveaway from them already, how about a user this time? :D

We have a custom knife to give away, made out of 154CM steel and coming with its own kydex sheath. :ahhh

So what do you have to do to win this custom made knife? Simple. :D Show off a custom made knife you have, or tell us what kind of custom made knife you'd like to have made. Either one of those will be considered an entry. :hatsoff:

Entries till the 29th of July at 20.00 CET (server offset time)

Good luck.

I was hoping there was something like this coming when I saw the custom axe giveaway... thank you, Gingritch Tactical!

do modded Leatherman tools count as custom knives?

in any case, I was actually looking at the Gingritch Tactical blade gallery the other day, and this beauty caught my eye:

I'm not sure what the dimensions are on this knife, but I'd love something like this with about a 3" blade, preferably from 154CM, S30V, or a similar steel so that no blade coating is needed. I have a couple ESEE fixed blades that I love to use while camping, but I'm hesitant to use them for food prep because of the coating on the 1095 steel.

actually, now that I think about it, a full flat grind would be great since the knife I'm imagining would be used primarily for food prep... :D

Very gorgeous, I will sit this one out as I think its border-lining legality in Switzerland, which commonly means you are at the mercy of whoever you have to deal with.
Thanks Gingrich :salute:
and good luck to everybody.
It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

I got this custom from a hunting guide, who made it for me, from the YO Ranch. I can't recall what if it's white tale or stag

*edit- I just looked up the post in the fixed blades thread and it's an axis deer antler base.

Although I don't have a custom knife at the moment, I have plans for my "Ideal work SAK".
As a maintenance electrician the ideal SAK for me would be a 93mm alox version of the "Modeler".
This would contain all the most used tools that I would need for repair work.
The change I would make would be to replace the small blade with the pruner blade.
After many years in industry I came to prefer the hawkbill shape blade for cable & wire stripping.
The metal file/saw would be ideal for cleaning up corroded or rusted components.
The scissors of course have a multitude of uses for an electrician.
Mag glass & inline philips driver are also extremely usefull.

I'm still trying to decide whether or not to use an Explorer & Mountaineer for the parts or use a Swiss Champ.
If I used the Mountaineer, I could just remove the metal saw & rebuild it as a Climber.

Thanks derekmac I put a lot of thought into it.  It's just about perfect except it turned out so nice I baby it. It was supposed to be my work blade. That's ok though because it cost way to much to wreck at work.

Woah.  :o

Not sure if this counts as custom, probably not, but anyway...

Just a regular spartan configuration, but I think the blade was exclusive to the Victorinox road tour they did a few years back, and the soft touch scales. Best part is I made it myself, with official tools.  ;)

I don't really have any customs other than some one off hack jobs of my own making, but if I could wish...

The basic concept is a Ka-Bar Mk2, also known as the Marine model. 1095 steel, keep the width and the fullers, but only 5" long and sharpen and serrate the clip. Jimp the spine with a at least one cut out deep and square enough to strike a ferro rod, like the "shango" notch on the the TOPS BOB knife. Leave the blade bare, I'll put a patina on it. Take the top off the cross gaurd, but keep the lower part of the gaurd as is and the pommel the same hammer butt. Stacked leather washer handles are for the win at ten below zero, put a wider, deeper groove at the pommel, for a lanyard if I want one, but DO NOT shorten it like Ka-Bar did with their mini.

Package it with a couple sheaths. One slim leather with a wide belt loop(I like to carry my knife inside my belt with the gaurd at the top of the belt line and the ability to cant it some is a wonderful feature), another one like that but with an altoids tin sized pouch on the other side of the tunnel belt loop (so when I'm carrying the knife, the knife and it's sheath are again inside of the belt, and I have a small kit outside of that). And a basic black kydex that I can put a loop on or attach to molle gear or hang in a mercharness-style rig.
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

Thanks GT for the great prize.  :salute:

I entered the hawk giveaway with a grandad related story, thought I would do the same for this one.

Twenty plus years ago I was in the garage working on an old piece of stainless when grandad walks in.
After watching for a minute he starts digging in a bin and comes up with the end of a broken saw.
He handed it over explaining how it will take a good edge and make a better slicer.
It's a bit random but I felt it was right to keep a couple original saw points.

Here it is with another semi custom I put together, the Grand Super Tinker.

Man I wish I had the money to buy a custom or the skills to make my own.   My goal is to do something kinda traditional, a sgian dubh but with 154cm blade and a bog wood handle.   I want the family motto inscribed on one side of the blade and the family crest on the other.   Would go great with my kilt!!
If it's stupid and it works.....
It ain't stupid.

that's a great use of a broken saw, and a really cool story to go with it.

can I ask what you used to grind/reshape the broken saw blade?

I think it was hacksaw to bench grinder to files to bench stone.
