Another excellent giveaway from Gingrich

It's a lovely knife, but I have more knives than I need already, so I'll refrain from entering so someone more deserving gets this

Here's some of mine ...

First off, a custom knife I won in a giveaway right here at MT.O, made by none other than out very own Ray Kirk of Raker Knives. This is a lovely knife, and a real piece of art that my piccies fail to capture

Next up is one that I made myself under the watchful eye of a UK knifemaker. I spent three days with him in his workshop, under his tuition and made this out of 01 toolsteel with cryogenic quench. I really enjoyed those three days, pregrinding the blades, heat treating, finish grinding, and making/fitting the handle, bolster and sheath.

I also had some time left over and made another blank, which he then heat treated, blued and forewarded on to me later. I did the ropework handle at home, then sent it up to Scotland to have a custom made sheath made for it

Again, this is not an entry for that lovely knife. I just wanted to sieze the opportunity to show off these three

I've got a number of customs but my favorite has to be my Fiddleback Forge Nessmuk with black burlap grips and orange pinstrip liners

This - a knife I made a while back. A guy running as a semi hobby, semi business, teaching and helping people make their own knives, starting with a steel bar. Took about a day to make, and man is it a fantastic knife!

I'm always undecided about whether to take this one on camps or the like, as part of me wants it to be a collectable because of the sentimental attachment - and part of me wants to use it as it's such a great knife!

I was considering if I should enter this or not, but a friend of mine really wants this and if I win he'll trade some vintage Soldiers for it, so here goes.

I don't have any real customs yet, but my dream sak would be a 3-layer Alox:

Phillips/Can/Cap

Gah! I keep meaning to go borrow my mothers camera so i can take some decent photos for my entry.
alas work has kept e busy (ironically said work is painting her husbands apartment thats going on the market so i talk to her daily at the moment!)

Frantically checked photobucket and i have some fuzzy amateur pics.

The 'big one' is called Ani-san ( Elder Brother in japanese) and was handcrafted entirely from scratch by my sister in secret (along with the smaller one which is hers) when she was on contract with Outwardbound in Western Australia. She forged it, shaped it, polished it, carved the handle, made the sheath etc. Whilst i dont have a picture of it she made sure the balance of it was such that you can res the top brass of your handle on a finger horizontally it balances (only the slightest tilt and thats her first knife ever) Her only regret was rushing the staining of the sheath as she was due back in sydney the following week. I eventually plan to remove it so it has the natural look like her one.
As you can tell i'm a little proud of her, she is quite the artist and she took on the project purely cause she knew my love her knives... if you'd like to see some of her other work her FB artist profile is

As for customs i want (photos would of really helped here)
I'd love to see a Becker Necker Bk11 in 1095 shrunk down to an Esee Candiru size. I have a stainless Becker Remora and the blade/handle are not the same proportions, also the Remora is more scalpel like with its thin blade whereas the candiru is much beefier making it more micro-survival knife
(Eg Izula mini-me = Candiru, Becker Necker mini-me = santos desired pocket friendly custom)

The other desires is a gladius styled 14" big 'un in a d2 steel and convexed edge (similar to the condor combat machete but slightly thicker) in case i ever need to face Trollocs, but its important that it be knife/dagger like as i have the Ji of my people to think about.

No customs as yet, but as much as I can enjoy a knife as a piece of art, I enjoy using them as tools.

I'd love to have a sturdy fixed piece, blade length of 2 1/2" to 4", handle at least long enough to get a full purchase grip either forward or reversed. Something meant to be used, that will hold an edge well and is easy to clean and sharpen.

If it's easy on the eyes that's an even bigger plus!
