I can't imagine why LM would pick one model to not put date codes on. B01 and B02 mean nothing to me.. I was just curious if maybe LM kept track of this internally somehow and the different stamps maybe signified major changes to the tool that would make the parts incompatible or something.

Was the shorter file the start of B02?

I hate to post something on topic, but my original and fairly old (first gen file) Rebar has B01 on the serrated side and A01 on the PE side.

My newer one has B02 both sides.

This is exactly the kind of information I was looking for.

That's a good question, it's not like they couldn't fit a date in there if they wanted to

I understand some tools just do not have room, and they proved they can fit 3 letters!  the old date code style is only 4

It's also odd that it's on the lock tabs rather than the handle itself.

Original Rebar with B01 on both sides.

It's also odd that it's on the lock tabs rather than the handle itself.

I've wondered about them before.

Surge 1B on both.
Original Surge 1A and 1C.
Core 1B and 1C.
Charge Ti 1A on both.
Charge TTi 1B and 2C.

There's not actually that much in it. Dunc started a thread on it IIRC, I'll have a look.
