Cool experiment. I got this same tool about 10 years ago, and although lost has been replaced.
The only reason I don't buy gerber anymore is that they are not made in the usa and I've had several of the same 600's fail and break (plyers on first use). I kept sending them back for replacements but after a while lost my patients.
Love the experiment though. Makes me want another 600 (with that good ol usa stamp)!

Ummm.... The MP400/600 series has always been made in the US........
Good to know! :)

Great test here P-N  :tu:, like others have posted I'm stunned it hadn't rusted solid!!

Okay, who's gonna volunteer next.
Can I make a suggestion.....this time we don't bury it! How about nail it (or them) to fence or tree.

Let's see how it/they copes then  :D

This way we could see a month by month deterioration

I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Í do have access to a flat roof. I could do a test out in the elements. I have a MP 600 I guess, but no LM except for a sidekick that was meant to be a single winged one... Talk me into it.

I did, and Alex from customer service is sending me some Gerber "swag".  I'll report back.

Nice...

First image, when I do a google image search for "Gerber Swag":

It wouldn't be the internet without people complaining.

Great thread, Powernoodle!

I'm also surprised it didn't rust as much as I thought it would. I think they use 400 series stainless on the frame and implements (someone please chime in and correct me), but the bead-blasted finish is notorious for trapping moisture and expediting oxidation.

Should still have a lifetime of use left in it, with a very cool story behind it. It's definitely earned its keep!

I was just re-reading this thread again. It's so impressive... This inspired me to add an MP600 to my EDC. Excellent MT :tu:

You know, it just struck me that they never sent any swag.

Maybe the next MP600 I bury will rust like an old Chevy.   >:D
