I think I'll buy one too...  :D

Might be worth asking to see some photos of the actual tool you are getting BEFORE you pay ......     :pok:

That, too.... but I'm sure they wouldn't make the same mistake twice. Unless they have some special attitude to the Balkan countries  :pok:

So what happened? You got a refund yeah? And you get to keep the knife?

Yes, I got a full refund (knife + shipping) and I got to keep the knife, as the guy said, to cover my customs & other taxes. And in exchange for that, they asked me to leave them positive feedback on eBay. But despite the disappointment, I think they did deserve their positive feedback in the end.  :tu:

Thats a great outcome despite the condition of the tool and the hassle.  So.......you got yourself a gold SAK huh?

Not just a gold SAK but one she doesn't need to be afraid to USE :D

I'd really put this to the test and see what it takes to get that gold to wear off :tu:

I'll wait before I put it to a real test.... :D It's still one quite rare knife. For now I'll just not be afraid to carry it as its scales are awful anyway :D

I was thinking the same thing.  Now you can actually carry it and enjoy without worrying.

I haven't exactly had the best experience with "gold" plating either. I think I'll pass on any more "gold" items  :-\

That said, I'm glad how this turned out for you. Your knife is beautiful and I hope it stays that way for a long time :)

Ok, two update pics.

I haven't used the knife at all, which means no signs of wear on the useable areas.

however, there are signs of wear on the flat upper side close to the nail-nick because of my play with it, folding and unfolding it:

And also here, while at the beginning it was done perfectly:

So, conclusion: it will really wear out even if you only play with it :D No use at all.

Well, they're from the US. America rules :D While those smurfing Swiss send scratched scales :D :D

That's why I was curious if Sypho's knife came with all the original papers. A while ago Chako sent me a gift and it had all sorts of papery things in the original box. So, I assume new SAKs come with lots of brochures and such. Or at least one. TTC claim on their eBay page to send all the "original paperwork", but my knife came in a destroyed boxie only, nothing in it. Let alone one.... more complicated stuff.

P.S.  I've also noticed that they include also their businesscard/at least something that says TexasToolCrafters/ with other packages. There was nothing like this here.

Hi guys. Just wanted to add some quick comments to the fray to put to rest some of the ambiguity and give you an idea where we're coming from on the SAK's.

Firstly and foremost, I want to assure everyone that customer satisfaction is our number one concern.  If there is anything at all possible that we can do to make a bad situation right, we'll do it.  Of course it's our goal to never have a single issue,  but certainly in the case of N_N_R's tool there were several.  N_N_R was very understanding to work with us on a resolution.

Regarding Victorinox packaging and "paperwork":  when tools are received by a distributor, they arrive with crumpled boxes and scratches on the scales.  The boxes have a printed note stating that full instructions can be found online -- paper instructions are no longer included.  We've asked around, complained to Victorinox, requested special handling, and we're still in the same situation.  From our research, the scratching on the scales is a very common issue recently.  Other manufacturers (even cheaper manufacturers such as Gerber) take the time to wrap the knife in plastic before boxing.  Victorinox does not.

We are working on some upgrades to address these concerns.  Starting next month all of our SAK's will have the option to ship in premium "suspension" packaging (photo attached) that are appropriate for gifting or presentation.  This upgrade will give us some spare Victorinox boxes so that we can trash the beat up boxes and ensure crisp boxes for everything that doesn't ship in the presentation packaging.

In addition to the quality control cards that all of our tools are already shipping with we will be including a COA/Informational card with each tool.  This is in direct response to feedback we've received from multitool.org members.  The card will contain basic production information (ie gold purity/thickness), a statement that this tool was purchased directly from TTC Inc, and a warranty statement.  If you have any input on other information you think this card should contain, there's still time for revisions.

Finally (and unfortunately) we'll be trimming back our lineup to remove some of the problematic tools. Until Victorinox fixes the scale scratching issue, most of the Cellidor models will be nixed.

The SAK's are a relatively new product for us and we're constantly working to improve.  Multitool.org input is EXTREMELY valuable to us and has a huge impact on what we do and how we do it. In the case of the SAK's, for the sake of keeping prices low we sacrificed some collectibility and presentation appeal.  We've heard your voices and changes are coming.

Sincerely,

Stephen Kranyec, President Texas Tool Crafters

PS. My direct email is stephen.kranyec@texastoolcrafters.com.  If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop me a line directly.

Older Saks came in a velvet mold, held so snug that it was hard to pull it out with your fingers, thick instructions, and a fleece sheet over the tool! The newest Sak I bought only came loose in a much smaller box. Easy to see how these changes can lead to nasty scratches on your Sak. My latest Wengers also came loose in a smaller box, but had a sticker over both scales for protection.
Come on Victorinox :pok: look after our Saks, use protection!
