Six Terrible Minutes
on: July 28, 2014, 04:01:11 PM
On Thursday, we moved all the heavy stuff from our old house to the new. I had tied the front door open with cord, and pulled my TiNi SOG Crosscut out to cut the string when we were done. In my haste to cross the lawn to the moving truck, and while attempting to put the tool in my pocket, I dropped it.

I should note that I have a 'thing' about highly visible tools, after having lost a frickin' camo flashlight in the woods when I was in my late teens.

I would say shiny gold qualifies as 'highly visible', particularly in bright sunlight, on a lawn of freshly mowed grass. It should have been a simple matter. It turned into 6 minutes of searching. The scary part was that there was a stub of pipe in the lawn that was theoretically large enough for the tool to have fallen into. When it was finally found, it was about twelve feet from where I THOUGHT I'd dropped it. Go figure.

I may have to switch to my stay-glo climber for EDC now. And it probably wouldn't hurt if i could find a way for it to start emitting loud chirps if more than 3 feet from me.

Ya my first thought was to put on some of that bright orange paracord.  I have a folding saw I use alot in the backyard that lost itself a few times.  I put on a foot long safety orange lanyard and now its not a problem.  :D

Rather than lots of paracord, I think multiple backups are the way to go. Most of us seem to go this way I see....

Given the length of the last search, finding Backups for TiNi Crosscuts could be quite a longwinded project. ;-)
I recommend a lanyard for such objects in a hectic work ienvironment.

I lost teh second key to our car. It did not have a Keyring and must have dropped out of my pocket. It´s containing a transponder and will be around 150-200 € to replace... Should have put it on the keyring right from the start.

Woof!  Drastic reaction.  Hope you don't lose anything in the woods.

Especially not areas with endangered species! Not to mention when I had to drain that lake...

My missus is always "misplacing" her house keys.  I put a small locator beeper on it which we can activate when required.  One time she complained that she could hear the beeper but it kept on moving around - yeah, well, if it is in your back pocket and you keep walking around it'll do that
