Lanyards - What have you got?
on: July 31, 2014, 12:00:14 PM
Does anyone else use mini lanyards on their tools? It makes them real easy to dig out of my pocket.

The problem I have is I can never find where to buy the bloody things. Every time I try to look up lanyards they're 2 foot long things with advertising printed all over them.

This one is from one of my LED Lensers.

Mostly i´ve seen the shown type (with a thin loop at one end) as a accessoire with small cameras, and sometimes with midsized flashlights.

Maybe the local camera-shop can help? Maybe order some as spare parts?
Have fun.

Michael

Can I add... if yours is paracord, what knot do you use?
I'm looking at a few options: Buntline Hitch, Fisherman's Bend, Round Turn And Two Half Hitches...

Just to be clear... Do you mean a overhand knot? Make a loop, go through the loop and tighten up?

I've been struggling with a paracord-lanyard for both my Squirt P4 and Multimate Mini, that won't get in the way when using the Philips driver, but no matter what I come up with, the lanyard gets in the way.

Well, it looks like you'll have the same problem as me, when using the medium screwdriver on the Wave? As in, the lanyard starts getting wrapped around either the tool you are using, or the object you are using the tool on, forcing you to waste time "un-winding" the lanyard.

I'd like one for my Wingman but it appears that will have to be one of the flashlight/camera lanyards.

No pics of my own things, but I like to tie a diamond knot in my lanyards:

I like just the very very simple types like Zed showed. I like the way they look on tools and I like bright colours which often add... some kind of a personality to the tool (ok, I'm crazy, before you've said it). However, I find them very inconvenient when you actually USE the tool. They constantly get in the way, they spin around, go round the tool, if I'm gonna use the tool for something dirty, I have to take care not to dip the paracord in the dirt, if I use my knife to cut fruit or something and then wash it, the lanyard gets wet and dries slowly and I have to remove it and and and. Sigh.

Some of mine are looped back on themselves through the split rings, but on some I use a small Stainless S-biner.

For lanyards I usually employ a two strand Matthew Walker knot. Simple and works well.

I use Diamond knots (as above), Snake knots (single or multiple, see below) or sometimes just Plain knots (like Zed showed).

Didn't knew this one, seems very nice looking and easy to make. The multiple strands possibility is also nice!

I usually use paracord with a false Turkshead on the end like these .

But recently made a sheath with an idea I had for using the lanyard as a retainer fastener .
I needed a little bit of stretch which paracord doesn't have and an easily adjustable lanyard so I used leather .
The first one I just knotted it , but I've since come up with this idea and will use it again because it works really well .
