You know, after seeing what cbl51 has for a cane holder, I am thinking I need something like that. I went out and could't find anything. I did buy this temporary white ugly plastic bucket that at least will hold everything compared to my old metal vase.

So the hunt continues.

jerseydevil, I am happy to hear the cane is helping you.  :tu:

Thanks!  It's pretty comfortable to use, and sure looks better than the metal one.  :)

Though you'll notice that it's only been a week and I've already got two.   I feel another collection starting......

You say catapult Mike, and I'm wondering how the hell I can attach siege artillery to the cane...... :o I know what you meant though. :)  I got to twak my first person today with it, a guy I know saw me at the deli this morning and said, "Nice cane, grandpa".  I gave him a tap on the shin while muttering about how kids today have no respect for their elders. :D all in good fun.

Very nice looking stick!! :tu:

Any idea what woods went into the making? Very nice grain on the handle. The Derby handle is one of the most comfortable handles you can get. It's kind of like a universal pistol grip.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Thanks!  It is very comfortable to use for sure.  According to one cabinet maker that was in the store today it's ash, but another says beech.  ::)  I went on the manufacturer's website and it just says hardwood, though where the wood is actually identified for specific sticks ash or beech are listed.  So it's wood from some sort of tree.  ;)  I'm getting around pretty well with the help, though it's not something I can really use at the store.  Try carrying four gallons of paint while handling a cane......  :ahhh  Going to or from work, or out and about, it's certainly helping.  :tu:

My nephew is fascinated by me using the cane to get around, so last week he decided to give it a try himself.  :D It's a bit large for him......

It's been a big help, and does make getting around easier.  I liked that derby handled one so much I went and got another, pics tomorrow when the light's a bit better.

My son was absolutely fascinated with my fathers walking sticks and his zimmer frame.

Although what he used to call the walking sticks used to make us laugh quite a lot, Like my parents I am Welsh, Welsh for Grandfather is Tide. Matthew used to call them Tide's stick, but he couldn't pronounce the ST so he used a D instead

(Smurfing swear filter I've re-written that twice now)

Nice grab Chako! This is what I've had my eye on, Grant it, it's not the best but it's better then nothing, and with the cold weather coming that will make a big diff! I don't need something for every time I leave the house, but anytime I gotta go for a long walk it will definetly take some pressure off the back and knees, and nothing will go to waist, if I cut the head off of it I get the stick, and I could make one of those for in the kitchen, only thing I would need is a rubber foot? I got paracord for a better handle and wrist strap.. JR

Make one of these with the leftovers?

Only other thing that cought my eye was one of those 48" budk unbreakable bamboo sticks, but I can't find them anymore..

Nice ones, Dan.  For $10 I would have grabbed them as well.  I did pick up one of those curved ones a few weeks ago.  It's fine for going shorter distances, but not as comfortable as the derby handle.  It does get some use around town though.

Some very nice looking sticks bud. I'm glad you're doing better though. Even so, I'll bet once you get used to a stick in hand, it's gonna be tough to walk out the door without one. But on the other hand, why would you want to?

Thanks guys, I really do like the new one.  :tu:  Unfortunately for me, the stick making it easier to get around has nothing to do with the leg feeling better.  :(  If anything, my pain level has been increasing, and is a constant even when not moving or standing.  The stick does help my balance though, and gives me extra support when taking a step.  I've got an MRI scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, and should have the results in a few days.  We shall see......

cbl51 - You're right, leaving the house with the stick is second nature.  Even for a short walk to the corner store, it comes with me.  It's become second nature, and people are already accepting it as just a part of me, nothing that requires comment.
