Crescent Fencing Tool
on: August 06, 2014, 07:28:38 PM
Special versions of tools and other working items are not unusual occurrances, but the tools them selves can be quite unique.  The stories behind them are often even better.  The Crescent 1936-10 Fencing tool found in the 'bay posting is one such tool.  It was given to a cowboy at this retirement in the 1950's.  Rather than steal the thunder of the documentation you can read more about it on the posting.  Knowing the name and ranch would make it even more special, but alas... Regardless, it is an elegant tool created for a special occassion.  http://www.ebay.com/itm/131259298774?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

I salute the man that earned it and the people that thought enough of him to have it created.  :salute:

I hope it finds a good home where it will be regarded and treasured for another generation.

Seems like the great-grandson can still be had today........minus the chrome though
http://www.amazon.com/Crescent-193410CVN-Pliers-Staple-Cushion/dp/B000IM3WCI

And you can get these for just $5 (when back in stock)

You can still get Fencing Pliers with chrome-plated heads, but seemingly not to such a high standard of finish as in the auction.

I've seen ads from the turn of the century for fencing repair tools under $1 US.  There are dozens if not hundreds of different fencing tools from the late 1800's to today.  Every tool manufacturer seems to have tried their hand at creating a fencing tool.

None of today's versions have the really great hand tooled saddle sheath like this one.  This one is only valuable to a collector for the historical aspect.
