First:  :salute: ZOIDBERG :salute:

The G10 Version looks much better, I mean much better...
Would you please take a picture of Ambi, Dragonfly and a SAK for size comparison? Please, pretty please with cherry on top?

From the top:
Dragonfly G10
Ambi
Farmer

Day 7:
Not much to report.
Its still scary sharp and performes all tasks like a pro. Its heavier than the FRN but still very pocketable.
I have had non of he minor issues I had with the FRN.
Zoidberg was right. The G10 really is a much better knife. :salute:

I've saved some money and here it is. My own little razor. And believe me scary sharp (VG10) is nothing compared to this one! It bit me the moment I've pulled it out of the box.

This might seem like a silly question, but bear with me - I've never handled, or even seen, a Spyderco in real life. What kind of scales are those? Looks like there's some 3D to them?

Those are Nishijin scales. AFAIK it's some kind of carbon fiber. But correct me if I'm wrong.

Never heard of those before. Seems like I've got myself some researching to do, tomorrow.

Glass fiber weave impregnated in polymer. That pattern is suppose to simulate the pattern of a traditional kimono.

Very smooth scales.

The Dragonfly got to do a lot of woodwork today. We had a playday in my sons kindergarden today, and I was put in charge of the fire in the fire hut. Lots of feathering had to be done to get the fire started.

Day 13:
I gave the dragonfly a small touch up today. A few swipes on the spyderco fine ceramic stone and it was as sharp as new.
I am however surprised that it did not hold its edge razor sharp longer. In its defence it has feathered a lot more wood than Ambi did in the same amount of time.

Thanks for the update. Nice pic too. You said feathering firewood, how well does the blade shape and grind do for that? Is it just OK or does it do a sweet job?

Nate

Its not the ideal tool for the job, and it probably isnt designed for this kind of jobs. The cutting edge is a bit short, and to be able to angle the blade right I have to have my thumb on the back of the blade. The combination has given me many painful splinters in my thumb.
That beeing said, its better than most other similar sized folders that I have used for the same task.
A Mora would do a much better job of it though, but that wont fold away nicely into my pocket. But that is like complaining that my butterknife is bad at gutting fish when it excells as spreading butter.

Makes sense.  I figured it would do OK on some task and excel at others and like you said, it fits in your pocket.

Testing good knives is surprisingly boring. It holds its edge well, is well built and doesnt need constant adjusting.

Heres another pic I took taking a walk earlier today.
