Hey from Belgium
on: August 14, 2014, 10:22:54 AM
Hi from Belgium everyone!

I got my first SAK (I think a Ranger) when I was around 10 y/o for joining the boy-scouts. I still have it somewhere, but it's not very useful anymore: saw is bent, knife blade is bent, scales are broken, etc. I got it because my parents noticed how much I liked to play with my father's Swisschamp. I think it was something I played with daily (play = opening and closing all the tools :) )

Then I got a Cybertool 34 around my 14th birthday. I carried that one daily for about 6 years! I fixed so many things and helped so many people with it, I really cherish that one. But once I became sensible and stopped wearing oversized cargopants, it was a bit too bulky to carry around in the pocket. I still carry it around in briefcase/backpack.

So I started looking for something pocketable and discovered the 84mm range. I often carried the small Tinker in my pocket for about 2 years, but it was still a little large. That meant that I did not carry it daily. I found that too often in impromptu situations I either did not have it on me, or it lacked some extra functionality.

So a while back I started testing different options. At present my EDC is a Leatherman PS4 and/or Victorinox manager, depending on how slick my daywear has to be.
I love the Manager, though the knife has rather limited use. The PS4 can do most chores, but I don't like that you can't open bottles with the bottle-opener (which is almost exactly the same size and shape as Victorinox, but with a slightly different curve, which renders it dysfunctional).

Of course I also have a plyer-based multitool! I had used the Leatherman Wave of a friend a few times, but I did not fall in love with it. But that happened with the Swisstool Spirit. I'm still in the middle about the "breadknife". I cursed that a few times. So I always put an extra knife around the Swisstool (either the Mercator K55, which is very thin, or an Opinel 9).

A few days ago I won a give-away here and got some beautiful modded Alox knifes and a Minichamp from Joe58!

Hi arnoldus,I'm very pleased your joining in earnest :salute:

How you finding the Alox compared to the cellidors?

I reckon I could do 90% of what I need my SAKs and MTs for with a Rambler and a Style PS,but it just wouldn't be as much fun >:D
