I think I may be in need of a new home first aid kit.

Umm..doing some clean up in the bathroom and found the home first aid kit. I am a bit embarrassed by this, as it shows clear neglect.

This is so old, it fits into antique territory.

It has been used a few times...when I was a child back in the 80s.

Those instructions say 1977, and believe it. The needle has a few rust spots from age.

In fact, the plasters which have been added over the decades are now old. So old that the packaging is falling apart.

Yeah, I am positive that 30 year old rubbing alcohol and Hydrogen peroxide will do the trick in an emergency.  ::)

Cotton balls in a clear plastic container. Not what it originally held, but my dad at the time thought it would make the perfect container for some.

So old, I am sure it is no longer sanitary.

And the rest...a  hodgepodge of too old plasters, restaurant sanitary napkins, and what not.

So it looks like maybe I do need to upgrade the old home first aid kit. You can tell I haven't had to use it in the last 20 years...but it might be a good thing just in case. I can see now that I have let this get a few decades old.

I do have more modern little ones, especially in the jeep and motorcycle.

I guess I could dig out the little one in my BOB kit if I really needed one. At least it is more modern. Same instructions...go figure. :D

Thanks for sharing the pix, it is nice you still remember that kit as a kid.

Are we going to see a new collection of First Aid Kits soon?  :pok: :D

Well I just fixed this situation. I wanted something that I could hand on the side of a washroom cabinet as opposed to taking space in said cabinet. I went to Canadian Tire and noticed they only had soft style hiker first aid kits of varying sizes. I had to ask an employee if they carried what I wanted. She directed me to the construction safety section. I had to  at that being so obvious.

This is what I ended up with.

Hmm...

If I were to put together a dedicated first aid kit, it would be significantly different than the ones you buy.  I would vacuum seal a pair of extremely high quality small scissors and high quality forceps in a seal a meal and boil them (sterilize).   Maybe even do the same with a 4 layer SAK (realizing the scales may be damaged), so I have the pliers (power tweezers), scissors, pin and 2 blades for use.

Other items:
Large bandaids, none less than 3/4 inch wide.  Mostly larger.
Lots of nonstick telfa pads and sterile 4X4's (sealed in seal a meal)
paper tape.
cloth tape.
Sanitary napkin (for large hemorrhage tamponade)
Steri-strips
Tube of super glue.
Aspirin (administered for possible stroke/heart attack patients)
Lots of betadine vials (for sterilizing--much better than alcohol wipes)
Maybe a small bottle of hydrogen peroxide.
Maybe small leather strap (for possible use as a tourniquet)
Roll of duct tape.

Depending if it's for travel, I might add:
Imodium
3 doses of Cipro
Aspirin
Ibuprofen

All the little bandaids, the crappy scissors and tweezers and slings and stuff are either poorly made or rarely used.

H'mm, those Wet-Naps...they've been arranged for the picture in such a way that we can only see one claw...it wouldn't be your old favourite the Bionic Lobster by any chance?
