RIP K9 "Kye"

OCPD Police K9 "Kye" was layed to rest today, surrounded by fellow K9's and handlers from all over the state. Kye was tragically killed in the line of duty recently after a pursuit and manhunt. Kye was stabbed to death while protecting his handler, who ultimately shot and killed Kye's murderer. I just wanted to share this with my fellow MTO members who so often have wished myself and my K9's Ajo and Bo well.

OCPD k9 Officer "Kye", end of service August 24, 2014. Rest now son and Bravo buddy, Bravo, good boy.

Kye,  you fought the good fight and were an amazing part of the "Protect and Serve" team.  you did your job well, and paid the ultimate price.
Run free now, and may your sacrifice not be easily forgotten   

may you partner cope as well as possible, and may he focus on the highlights.

Stew, I am so sorry for your loss. At least he is at peace. He is in some green field chasing rabbits and eating steak and waiting til you get to see him again.

I was just going to let this thread burn itself out, but I really have to thank you guys. I don't have any idea how to express how much it means to me that you all commented and did so sincerely. I also firmly believe that this particular group is holding back what they truly want to say. That's ok, I know what you mean to say but this is a family friendly site. I also know full well who my family is and most of them don't wear a badge. I don't want to cross a line but here goes. I love ya guys, thanks.

Ducttape, you're right. I will see him again, at least I hope so. Just like when Ajo has to leave me, I'm going to want to go find him so he is not alone. I swear if these loyal partners don't go to heaven for all that they've done, then it is no place for me either.
I want t go where Kye went and where my Ajo will soon follow.

I have a very hard responding to these threads.  It has to do with the tragic deaths of two of our Jack Russells .  I still have a difficult time thinking about it.  Dogs put everything they have into our lives.  How can we not feel a huge loss when they go?

I must say, while not on topic, that one totally caught me off guard and I chuckled here at my work desk...I hope nobody heard me    

Also, these exchanges are just another shining example of the family/community that exists here   While I have no dogs myself, I did grow up with a few throughout childhood, and it is very sad when they go, especially if sudden and tragic like this.  I can only imagine the bond between an officer and his K9 partner.  I hope he's coping well with the loss of his brave K9
