Leatherman Fuse saw mod
on: August 29, 2014, 04:07:40 PM
I tried to search with no luck. Is there a LM saw that can added to the Fuse in place of the lanyard ring?

If there is enough width for it to fit, the saw from the blast will fit. I also might remember someone putting in a rebar saw? Not sure of that one

For starters look at this post...
http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,54246.msg940104.html#msg940104

Only yesterday I loaned Fuse my Rebar saw.  Perfect fit in the long bay I had freed up.   Camera not to hand or I would post a pic.

Big but of course, you can only install a saw in a long bay, that is either in place of the blade or the scissors (the Knifeless Fuse had a file in place of the blade).  The Rebar saw is about 1.8mm thick.  The lanyard ring alone is much thinner but there are plenty washers in a NIB condition Fuse.

I have a SOG saw on order, hoping I can mod it to fit in Rebar.  Watch this space.

Thats good to hear.  There is a pawn shop in my area that gets lots of used and damaged multi tools.  I will keep an eye out.

I have never used the scissors on the Fuse, not even once that I can remember, but use the file and the saw on my Wave quite often, and would like to have a saw on the Fuse that I carry while at work.

Thanks

I don't own the tool so I can only speculate, but wouldn't it be possible to place a hacksaw in the lanyard ring slot? They're pretty thin and easy to cut to size.

If possible post some pics of the job when you're done! ;)

I am a mod newbie so we will see how it goes.  First I have to hunt down some spare parts.  My wife is on my case about buying knives and tools lately so I am on a budget.  Hopefully I can find a couple with broken tools for cheap and start experimenting.

Thanks for the advise, I will try to update after I get some work done.

I strongly recommend you get yourself a "Kick" pocket clip which acts as a serrated screw spanner.  Good luck with your modding.

I would take a file in place of the lanyard ring!  I would use it quite often.

SOG saw to Rebar successful.  Pics attached.

For the record the SOG saw thickness is 0.2mm more than the Rebar LM saw.  Slightly easier to find the space in Rebar than Fuse so Fuse keeps the Rebar LM saw.

Yeah, the saw from a Blast will drop right in place of the scissors for sure.  I did pretty much the same with my Fuse, excpet I put the in the file.

Lots of good suggestions so far. Still looking for a donor saw though. I love the size of the Fuse just dislike the tool selection so hopefully I can get it done.

Fuse with awl substituting for cap lifter/can opener.

The awl is ground from the Rebar small driver which gained the ex-Kick narrower shank small driver in exchange.  Unfortunately I don't have tooling to drill a sewing eye.
