Just got my muppet her first bike for her 9 month anniversary:

She seems to like it:

On the way to work.

Very nice, I always liked racers but considered them too fragile for daily commutes to work. However that was before I discovered Cyclocross bikes.. :o
I do like your rear carrier. Can you give me some details please. I need somewhere to store waterproofs.
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Well, we are already swimming pretty well (we've been doing classes since she was 6 months old) so cycling was the next step... unfortunately we might have to wait a bit for the skiing bit.

This is Megan's new old bike:

(Image removed from quote.)

It's an old Supercycle made to look like an even older vintage bike.  It's got a steel frame and six gears, some of which even work.  :D

Cool + I like steel frames

Yeah, CX (or gravel bikes, for the fashionable amongst us) make loads of sense for everyday riding. The carrier is a Carradice Bagman 2 Sport, and the bag is a Carradice Super C Audax.

Thanks for replying  :tu:
I actually I picked up a new bike last Friday...well not new, but new to me!!
Last Tuesday morning at 6:15 am whilst cycling to work on my GT Karakorum
My rear wheel locked up..at first I assumed the chain had slipped off the rear cassette. But when I took a closer look, the rear rim had split! And 3 spokes had wrapped themselves around the cassette.
I couldn't free off the spokes so had to return home carrying the bike. I continued to work on my Orange P7 ( after pumping up the tyres )
A quick search on eBay spotted a Carrera CX, bid and won for £84. Collected it last Friday. Been out on it fri, sat, sun...covered about 40 miles, seems to be working fine. I've already added full length mudguards and transferred my rear rack off the GT until I get something more modern.....hence asking about yours in the picture.
Must say after riding MTBs for the past 30 odd years, I'm really loving the posture on the CX.
I'll try and pick up a spare 26" rear wheel for my GT....intend to get her back running and use her as a winter bike!

I've got a new bike!

It's a (cheapo brand) Supercycle Hooligan with 21 speeds, full suspension and an aluminum frame.   Pretty well everything I wanted, and only cost $100.

Am I cool yet?

Yours too! Full Suspension eh!! Are you going off exploring through the woods?

I miss the bump-ability on the Mtb, I'm scared I'll buckle these fragile looking big wheels if I hit so much as a pothole even though it's supposedly a cyclocross (mine is cheap brand). But having said that I gave it a thorough thrashing on Sunday and it seems none the worse for it.  :D

Probably, and most likely not entirely on purpose....  :ahhh

I get what you mean about the skinny tires.  I tried a few street bikes and the teeny tires scared the living crap out of me.  Every bump I went over I expected to be on the ground with my precious blood making a run for it.

Yeah, mountain bikes might be kind of tank-ish, but that's really my kind of style.

Around here, a mountain bike is perfect. A road bike will get trashed by the conditions of our streets and sidewalks pretty quickly. My $35 find is running, but needs a bit more work (new tires, tuneup) before it's fully ready. I'll be taking care of that in the next week or two. As it is right now, it's fine for shorter trips in this part of the city. :tu:

The bearings have gone in my trailer wheel so my thoughts turned to making it into a fat Bob , just attached a barrow wheel to get an idea

I hate to say it Nelly, but someone's nicked half your front fork. :(

Very impressive bit of engineering there I'd say. :hatsoff:
