Are all the spokes true? If one's slightly out it'll put a lot more load on it's neighbours :-\

i had same issue , years back ..im abt 65kg back then ::)..
could be needing checks on spoke tensioning ..it was a mavc517xc rim, handmade installer at local bike shop... one time problem of spoke broke under load during uphill.
redo tension ..all is well after that..

The spokes may not have been true the first time but they were true the following times as I had just picked it up from the shop.

the shop might have loosened some of them too much so they are easily coming undone?

I checked them and they all seemed to be tight.  Perhaps I need to just go and buy a new rim.  If not, I think I am going to get a new bike sometime soon anyway.  I'm looking at the Madone series but there is a part of me that wants to throw my hat in the singlespeed ring.

The reason i stopped riding SS and fixed gears was my knees, i do like SS though as a basic bike, but due to pulling the kids in the trailer i stick with gears these days plus when very tired after a bad night shift the granny gear comes in handy on a steep hill going home  :D

Strange enough, the hills that I climb around here I climb in a higher gear on my 7.2 than I would climb on a singlespeed.  There are not many climbs around here that are greater than a mile in length.  I do understand the purpose of having a granny gear though.

I have not rid a bike in 20 years so should be fun.

Zed, Ryan thanks, I hope it is as good as the reviews say.
I have not ridden a bike since in my teens and mountain bikes have come a long way since then.
More like oversized BMXs  than road bikes with chunky tyres and straight bars as I remember them.

Reason behind my purchase is I have not been able to run for 6 or so weeks due to a knee injury that does not seem to want to heal.
So I  plan to use the bike knee permitting to keep my fitness up and hopefully the exercise may even help my knee recover.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

As I am new to MT.O still, I'm discovering new areas and stopped to check out this thread. I'd like to get in on the discussion as well. I have an Orbea Aqua 2011 that I got in March, Since then I've put over 800 miles on it. I have been cycling on and off during my career and got into it more since retiring. I started a thread on Cycling EDC in the Gadget Freak/EDC Forum last week. Any of you guys/ gals that cycle have ideas and haven't been there to post and would like to please feel free. I'm always looking into new ways to improve what I carry and do while cycling.

So here's my road bike, which sees most of my mileage.

I also have a track bike, touring bike, and mountain bike, but no recent pictures of them.

Cheers guys. I love this bike.

I love mid-to-late 90's era road bikes. Simple, beautiful machines.

The new carbon fiber bikes with huge tubes and garish logos are mind blowingly ugly to me.

I'd love to see some of your old bikes if you have any photos!

I put almost 3000 commuting miles on my baby this year.

Salsa Vaya3 upgraded to Retroshift CX2 brakes and shifters. Freakin' awesome bike. Great for long range commuting, light touring and gravel grinding.
