No pics here, just wanted to let off some steam.

I used an older, yet still nice Peugeot "Sports Touring " bike to commute to work.
It was a nice steel framed, slim bike with aluminium wheelsan old Weinmann ceter Pull front brake and only 3 speed Torpedo hub.
It had a slim, chromed fork and i fitted a straight chromed bar and a MTB saddle.

Someone stole it last week. Damn Smurfholes...

Now i use an old Rabeneick 3 speed Ladies bike. Looking somewhat liek the old Gazelle standard bikes.

It was my 5th bike that got stolen in Cologne.

first was a Rolf Wolfshol shimano 105 equipped racer - Out of a locked cellar room
2nd and 3rd were Mountainbikes i built from hard earned parts over time, both from an enclosed court, locked to a rail with massive U- respectively chain lock.
Fourth was a cheapo used 10 gear Tourer i got because all my other bikes had been stolen And the 5th and last was teh mentioned Peugeot.

I would really liek to get a nice bike again, but atm i would have to leave it outside, locked to a bike parking stand on the street, like the Peugeot was.

Maybe you should get a folder mate?

One of the main reasons I bought a Brompton was so it couldn't be stolen :)

As long as the hubs made by a decent company, ie sSturmey Archer, she'll be fine mate :)

I'd never get a bike with derailleur gears again, hubs are just so much better in traffic, and are pretty much maintenance free :) I wish I could say the same about flipping derailleur equipped bicycles I've had!

I can only speak for teh (now outdated as 14 gear hubs exist) 3 5 and 7 speed hubs from  Sturmey Archer, Sachs and Shimano.
All of them have worked fine for me. For a pure city/short distance bike in a flat area a 3 speed is enough in my opinion, for touring or up- and down landscapes you might want 7 speeds or more.

Maybe you should rent a bike for a few days which uses the hub you want to get?

A bike thread :-)

I'm a really keen biker..

I haven't got many recent pics but here it goes..

First my downhill bike, Santacruz bullit

Had this a few years... Haven't got any pics of it together but the pic I have is of the frame after the rebuild this winter

Next I have a haro sonix lt .. It's my all mountain bike ( I ride this most weekends)

Also have a custom bmx... Haven't had much use from this recently

Another I have is a custom hardtale that I made up off an old frame...

Last is a bike I made for a laugh... Welded 2 cheap free bikes to make this... This was before paint ( can't find the after paint pics at the moment)

One of the pics here I've got wife's sun glasses on, couldn't find my welding goggles so next best thing :-)

I'll try and get more pics later

I am really enjoying my cycling,
Since buying my hardtail I have Also bought a Carrera subway for getting from A to B as with continental travel contacts at 70psi it rides so much easier on the Tarmac and I don't mind leaving it chained up in public for hours, not something I could do with the hoodoo.

I try to get out in the woods as much as possible with the hardtail but I am getting a bit sick of the consistant wet weather as I don't think I have been for a ride yet where my bike has not come back completely caked in mud.

Yesterday I had to leave the woods to go in search of a shop where I purchased 3L of volvic to rinse my stanchions  where the top of my forks was literally peeling the mud of my tyre and packing it between it and the stanchions
And rinse of my front and rear mech as they were so caked in mud it would not change gear.

I am currently trying to raise funds by recycling hobby money to build a full susser.

So far I have a very nice 2010 orange 5 frame and a 6 month old DT Swiss AM 1900 wheel set taken off a canyon nerve.

I don't think it will be finished anytime soon, but I am still learning on the hardtail and more importantly I can feel my confidence grow with every ride.

Looks good,
So far I have sold a few mt's and a few air pistols, all of which I don't use and are just gathering dust.

I really don't want to sell them,
But I do want bike parts more than I want to keep them.

My trouble is i never show initiative, but that's only because no one has told me to.

Just changed my tyres as the maxxis ardents that came on the bike tended to skate around a bit in the mud.

Have put a highroller on the back and minion dhf on the front and it has made a big diference.
Low speed and thick mud they will clog,
But if you can keep the speed up they clear very well.

Please excuse the soppy mudguards but they keep me remarkably clean so they will be staying until the weather changes.

sweet, bikes!

the white-ish one is an old univega (nuevo sport?) and the yellow one is an old schwinn world traveler. both were salvaged. been riding them on and off for a few years. no problems aside from rusty chains that need to be replaced.

The were quite cheap from halfords and worked well enough, kept me very clean. They are off now, maybe a bit prematurely.

Hopefully the weather is now on the up.

Way back in the early 90's, when my '69 Olds Delta 88 was having brake issues, went and bought a new form of transportation. Got a Specialized Rockhopper, in an 18" frame.
Had a Peugeot with a 21" frame at one time, but the head tube cracked. Got a tip from the big fellas back then to stick with a tighter frame, and to extend the stem & seat tube.

Sacramento, CA

The flexible mud flaps only work at very slow speeds and when going straight. Yet to find a decent mud/splatter front fender that works at 30+ MPH.

Folsom Dam, CA

Later on had gotten some rather expensive Night Sun 10w/30w lights which actually performed like the manufacturer claimed. Not once ever burned out either lights for having it over 15+ years. Did drop in once and lost the spot and got a large ring, but the light mechanisms started failing, then the battery, so after about 20+ years it got scrapped. Not bad for a $200 unit.
If I ever got back into serious riding again would invest in another Night Sun lighting system.

  Frame Art

  The Rest Stop, Sacramento, CA.

Strange how stickers from way back then outlast the ones made anymore....

This bicycle sat in storage for another decade or more and I decided to get the cables replaced and get a tune up. Just got her back from Jdz Underground Bike & Board Shop in Wieser, Idaho for a serious tune-up & cable replacement/adjustment.

Had to buy new tubes recently and hoping to get some riding in soon. Also bought a bigger saddle with no horn to help break in my big butt and get back into cycling again before putting the horn saddle on again.

Bought some new accessories: top bar bag, new grips, and a new speedometer. Still need to get a headlamp, and tail-light. Still have the old Blackburn luggage rack on the back, and two Rhode Gear thermal luggage packs, and a set of paniers I used to carry my uniform and supplies to and from work at Kaiser Hospital.

Don't have the transparent reflectors that had high intensity flashing LEDs in them anymore. Don't see anyone making them anymore, and I had such rave reviews from those at the hospital that passed me by - they could see them lights a mile away at night. - Can see the LED reflectors up in a top photo.

  Driver's Seat

Oh yeah, forgot, also have a Girvin FlexStem shock absorber stem system. Was the thing back then for bikes that did not have the newer spring absorbers. In the 90's those spring systems were closer to the $5,000 professional bicycles. Strange how things change in a few decades. :D

Not many safe places to ride here in Idaho like there was in California. Still hoping to get out some this year and get some weight off too.  :)
