Higgins why no front brake? I raced bmx for a long time and its usual not too have a front brake as it is for dirt jumping, but ive never seen a xc mtb with no front brake, shame you dont live in the uk as ive got boxes of spare parts going from 1990-00 , but hey if it works for you  :salute:

My own stupidity really lol. 95% of it's life is spent on the road, so I really wasn't thinking for the trails when I built it up. I have a few spare sets, but I like the simplicity of the one brake and one gear. Not too much to get messed up if it has to be locked up in the rain, or ridden hard and put away wet. But I do appreciate the offer, don't worry all my other rides have both :D

:salute: im with you on simplicity,i miss my fixies but my fitness level is right down due to my health issues,i do like simple set ups  :tu:

I would like to be hitting some dirt jumps with it, but that's something we don't really have in abundance. Just jumping some stair sets and little things like that. Waiting for the skate park near here to thaw out. But I'd much rather fall on dirt than cement. You'll get back to it buddy, all it takes is some time in the saddle!

Ohhhhh Jekyll . I hope everything works out okay for you buddy, how long is your daily ride?? I do too, but for me it's all of 1.9 miles each way, so not all that exciting :D. But I'm taking racing a bit more seriously this year and plan to hit as many as I can.

I can't wait for the snow to melt so I can get out riding again.  Didn't ride at all last year, but I want to start again this year.

Speaking of mountain biking. You Canadians have some of the best trails in the world!

Honestly, there could be great trails around me, but I don't know any of them.    If I saw something that looked like a path, I'd try and ride it.  I mostly just ride on the street now. :(

My favorite biking video of all time was shot in BC I think. Guys built the trail themselves then just ripped down it like synchronized. Unreal riding and unreal trails.

Yeah man, some beautiful terrain out that way!  I haven't been out west, but would LOVE to go out someday.

Thought I'd share some pictures / tales from a ride a had a couple of days ago.

To set the scene for you:

-Had arranged to go riding with a friend of mine, but when he arrived he brought along another friend. The more the merrier I reckon  :)
-I'm very fortunate to live close to some great national parks (which naturally means lots of fire-trails and places to explore / ride).
-We are just in to autumn here- days are getting shorter and cooler. Just before this ride we had a reasonable amount of rain so it was nice and muddy!
-Total ride was around 18kms

On to the ride:

Not long after this photo was taken, my friend managed to break his chain. lots of leg power + worn out chain + single speed setup will do that! My Supertool 300 came in handy for some quick chain repairs, and he was able to complete the ride (although the chain did break another two times)

This, and the following photo were taken at the half-way point of the ride (distance wise, the first half of the ride takes longer as it is more uphill). What you are looking at is basically a remote farm (cattle, I believe) in the middle of an otherwise dense national park. I'm not sure how the people who live there even get to their home...

Still, looks like a pretty nice place to live.

As an aside, I've decided I'm going to try and track down a map of where the high-voltage power lines run (like you can see in the photos). Power lines = access tracks, and possibly much more mountain biking  :tu:

Oh, and here's a picture of my actual bike. As mentioned in previous post:

-UK folk will likely recognise the frame. I wanted to build a 'mini-fat bike' single speed with 2.4 tyres, and the On-One was the right price (and had single speed-friendly dropouts).
-I did end up relenting and getting a suspension fork (2 year old, refurbished Fox Float 32). Very happy with it, has lock out too which is handy for hills.

Happy riding all

Thanks!

I visited the UK in 2012, would love to do some riding there one day (particularly Scotland and Wales).

I'll post some pics soon, my bikes are an old Trek 3900 and a newer Trek X caliber 6 29er.

Prefer my other bikes, KDX200  and TTR250  , old school for me.

Old bikes are definitely more comfortable IMO. You have to get a tourer or expedition bicycle to have all day comfort  these days :)

I'm not a High Tech man myself, heck my newest gear is 2005 :D. Raleighs are underrated in my eyes, great way to get a top tier ride without having to sell your house, car, and first born. My early 2000s M80 is one of my favorite bikes to just whip around on. I'm looking forward to hearing about the ride!

The only ones I pass along are those I pick up with the sole intention of moving along. But even some of those I regret  I got a cool old Univega Alpina for 15 bucks, I don't know what it was about that bike but I just really liked it. But I sold it within a week, so hopefully someone else thinks it's cool too.

bikes are like a companion a friend, selling is always a regret  :-\ my raliegh is actually a good ride,i did change most of its parts but the frame is low slung like my old konas i owned, plenty of room too throw it about plus there is enough tire cleanance for fat aggressive tires, its my first raliegh since my burner i had back in the early 80's, my mum worked for moore large bicycle shop and they sold raliegh  :tu:

First time getting on the dirt this year! Stopped by one of the local trails that also has a nice little pumptrack out front, didn't have a ton of time and had my girlfriend with me so I had her take a few pictures while I messed around.
