32/16 on my old Trek that I recently did up.

I use it to ride with my kids now, no granny gear up the hills, pedal!

Another singlespeed brother in arms  :salute:

32/16 is nuts, you must have iron legs! Where I am (lots of hills) I run 32/19. I do lose some potential speed on the downhills, but it means I can keep pedalling up all but the steepest hills.

What are you doing for chain tensioning? Couldn't tell from the photos.

I smurfing snapped my chain as I was standing and mashing, wonked my back wheel all up, tweaked the brakes and drop outs, and slammed my gentleman's region. Not a good day!
I'm a total legend..... in my own mind- Herley

This is the most reliable tensioner I have found.
I guess its more complicated than most but it works.

Whatever works :tu:

I tried a few different tensioners on previous bikes, but when I built this one I made sure the frame has sliding dropouts. No tensioners for me!

Decided to grab a bike to use around town and for commuting.  Picked up this used mountain bike over the weekend for $70.  Over the next several weeks I have plans to pick up some add-ons and make it a more suitable urban bike. :tu:  The dual suspension is nice though, the roads in the warehouse/port district where I work suck.....

Welcome back to the cycling ranks mate :)

 :salute:

Thanks guys.  It's been a long time but fortunately riding a bike is like, well, um, riding a bike.  ;)  First up is a rack or something to hold a bag on the back, and a water bottle holder.  After that plans include new tires that aren't strictly off-road, handlebar extensions, and a new seat.  With those changes I think it'll be a useful utility/city ride.  :tu:

I finally broke down and got a trainer. This is a CompuTrainer by brand. It also hooks up to my pc laptop so I can get data from a session and it will also give resistance.

I got myself a rack yesterday. :tu:

Later today I'm going to get myself a new seat I think.  I decided to leave the knobby tires on the bike for now since the roads and sidewalks in the part of the city where I work are horrible.  The extra traction is worth a slightly rougher ride.

How's the knee bearing up with the cycling Tom? Last time I went out on mine, I was struggling for about 3 or 4 days afterwards with the tendons in my bad knee

Surprisingly, it's been holding up well. :tu:  The first week or so hurt a bit, but it hasn't been bothering me on the ride.  It's a flat, pretty easy run to and from work, and I take my time doing it.  I leave the bike in the midrange gears, and when I'm at work the morning is spent at a desk, so there's some time to recover. :)

Yeah Mike, it certainly will. :D It was muddy and wet this morning, and the bottom of the rack is a bit messy.  Today I grabbed a new seat, got a tuneup, and had the handlebars raised about three inches.  That makes a huge difference, this sucker's almost right where I want it.  Not bad for a $125 investment so far including the bike. :tu:

Took my bike out for the first time this year on Friday. I took it straight to the shop that afternoon for a good service, new rear tire and new chain.
