Less about the bike, more about the riding:

One take, great soundtrack, amazing riding. 8)

Here is the bike as it sits now. Extras since I bought it are as follows.

- Triangle bag
- Bottle cage
- Flashlight mount
- pedals
- Valve stem caps

I am liking how it is set up right now. I am debating on adding one of those tiny pumps. It can bolt to the same hardware as the bottle cage. You put the pump on then the cage then screw everything down. I really like the look of the bike and after I got it all tuned up its riding very well. I wanted to add a bag under the seat as well, but I keep the seat so low it would new fit. The seat is lower than in the picture.

Why have the seat so low? Going off road much?

I have back problems and I cannot ride very long hunched over. I do not have the longest arms so I really have to reach to hold them. It is much more comfortable to ride with the seat that low.

Ahh, that makes sense...

Did you know there are special saddleposts that allow limited side to side play. Due to that your back is less stiff and you have a more comfortable ride. My bosses bike has this and I quite like it, considering to upgrade mine :salute:

I wouldn't say hardtails work much better, it depends what you're doing. Most jobs a skeletool might be more than capable, but there are jobs that definitely have you wanting a Surge right?

In other news, I picked up 3 more bikes this week. 1993? Trek 2300 PRO Composite, 1985? Giant RS920, and a late 90s Giant Boulder with full Deore LX kit. All three for 105 bucks!

I think it depends, too.
For example, my load bike is a rigid (hardtail, no shocks up front) and I would trade it in for a ful sussmurfon Riese and Müller load without a second thought.

Granted, that one is built better in every aspect, but the suspension alone makes teh ride so much mor comfortable and safe. On the rigid bike, the front whel can woble or jump about a bit when hitting uneven ground or small bumps or curbs when no/not enough load is in teh trunk.

Suspension out back has saved me a few times after picking a bad line on the trails. Especially if you get a bike with a well designed suspension geometry, it does wonders to help remedy pedal bob people associate with full springers.

It's never going to accelerate as well or feel as sharp as a hardtail, but there are conditions where it's simply invaluable.

I have the cheapest fox float, so no lock. But for anything but trails I go hardtails.

All the hipsters around me gobble them up. I sell them pretty much without fail in a week or less lol.

Damn fixies... I'm all about single speed, but don't ruin the limited supply of ten speeds! Thankfully it's rural here, so when I get one it's usually neat, and I've never paid more than $20 for a bike

My question is, why fixed gear instead of single speed? Single speed seems far more versatile.

i trained on a fixed gear in the winter many years ago, i like the control you have with a fixed gear, there great in towns and cities ,especially for track stands, these days they have become a fashion item, but i like them for there simple and practically maintenance free design, but single speeds are good as well and probably more easy for most to ride compared too a fixie  :tu:

With single speed you get all of the disadvantages of fixed but none of the advantages. ;)

While I know that with practice, it can be very manageable, my biggest thing is being able to position my pedals. And since I live in a very, very rural area, with hills, coasting is an absolute necessity. Plus, you can get MUCH lower in a corner. Just my opinion on it, of course

So I'm pretty pumped and have nobody else to share with, I know there's some fellow bike fans here so here I am. Spend basically all day getting bikes today, drove up into New Hampshire to meet a guy and pick up two frames. A 2004 Cannondale R600 CAAD5 frame with Campy headset and carbon fork. And a 2005 Specialized S-Works Epic frame still sporting the complete XTR drivetrain and Fox brain rear shock and a few other parts. But by and far the best part was the price..... FREEEEE!!!!!! :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh.

I know it's the wrong way to look at it, but these are bikes which went for 1200+ and 4500+ when new and all together this guy just didn't want anymore. I'm so pumped.

The last pick up was 25 bucks for a vintage Lotus 3000M Pro series mountain bike with Rock Shox Quadra forks and what ended up being one of Suntours last respectable MTB component groups, rounded out with Ritchey rims. She is in much rougher shape than the two others, but 25 isn't exactly bank breaking.

And 9 used, but usable tires.
I'm a total legend..... in my own mind- Herley
