Sampling what eBay has to offer.
on: September 07, 2014, 03:30:34 PM
I decided to go a little nuts in buying keychain and one piece tools. This came about due to Leatherman's pruchasing of PockettoolX. Thus, I now have all of Leatherman's pocket tools. I also have a few others that are Navy marked and a few other cheap ones. I figured it was time to expand this part of the collection. What follows is a list of what I got this morning. Now to get them to my door and do a full photo shoot of the lot once all is said and done.

- EDC Gear Fish looking multi-tool.
- EDC Gear round hex cord rope cutter scraper multi-tool.
- EDC Gear folding scissors.
- EDC Gear pocket tweezers
- Outdoor survival cycling round EDC 10 in 1 multi-tool.
- EDC Pocket key tool x 2.
- EDC Gear hex wrench bottle opener pry bar tool.
- PockettoolX Piranha. (Yay, finally found one for the collection).
- Single finger robe cutting key ring tool.
- EDC skull key ring multi-tool.
- EDC  2 piece Ti hex tool + center screw driver.
- Nextool bottle opener cord cutter tool.
- Nextool bottle opener screw driver tool.
- EDC tactical slimcut utility knife multi-tool.
- CRKT belt cutter. High time as I have the originals.
- Pocket spanner wrench ruler can opener tool.
- Outdoor EDC Scallop keychain tool.
- EDC survival Pumpkin tool.
- Outdoor EDC hes wrench screw driver bottle opener tool.
- Crank pocket crowbar scraper cable cord storage tool.
- Outdoor EDC ruler hex tool.
- Hex tool key chain tool.
- Eatn Tool x 2. 1 is the CRKT model, the other is a fake.
- Outdoor stainless skull tool.
- 1 set, Crank mini pry bar and bottle opener tool.
- Wallet Ninja.

Now all I have to do is wait for it all to get in, and do a mini review on all of these.
A little Leatherman information.

Is that like trading in your old one for the new one? Kind of like a car?

If so, this marriage thing might not be half bad after all.

Nice list.  I see a lot of 'EDC' in the titles,  someone should start a contest to see how many items named EDC they can carry at one time. For at least 4 hours.
Anyway,  looking forward to pictures.  Especially the survival pumpkin tool.

EDCgear copies a lot of interesting stuff.

Fixed. ;)

I have yet to see an original product of theirs.

The tweezers are Uncle Bills Sliver Grippers, the pry bar is the Pocketwrench II, the keychain screwdrivers are from CountyComm I think, the keychain dangler is the Monroe Dangler, the scissors are True Utility Scixors, the carabiner is Leatherman, ... you get the idea. ;)

Haha agreed. Funny to think there's a company going around just copying this kind of stuff. I just ordered a RUT and Exotac match capsule copies.

I find it surprising that I did't have a CRKT Eat'n Tool in my collection. Then I ordered two off of eBay. One I figures was a copy, the other, a real one. Before these could arrive, I found at a local store, a Pazoda and Eat'n Tool combo pack. I brought that home as it was the first time I have ever seen an Eat'n Tool locally. Then of course the other two came in. The one I thought was a fake came in black, and the online photo showed no markings on it. It was also cheaper than the real deal...but I got confused when it arrived, as it appeared to have the same markings as the other two that I now had in my possession.

Upon closer inspection, the black one is thinner material wise...and would it be safe to assume this is a fake, or a real deal? Also, the black came with a larger D ring carabiner that doesn't fit in the right hole as seen with the other two real ones. I am hoping I have a fake, as I bought it thinking it would be. Am I correct?

And here is that nice little Pazoda that came with one of the Eat'n Tools.

So now I have 2 or 3 real Eat'n Tools on my hands. Can anyone tell me if the black one is a copy?

I own the steel in bead blasted finish, and have never seen a black one before. It could indeed be a copy.

Edit: on closer inspection the black one doesn't look exactly right. The top hex cutout is too close to the edge and the bottle opener 'lip" is different (thicker and rounder at the tip).

Sorry mate... :(

Most likely. The logo & text print appears identical and consistent between the three.

Counterfeiters don't usually go to these lengths...unless we're talking about replica watches for example...with Swiss watch replicas they make sure every cosmetic bit is replicated to a minute detail.

They come in loads of colors now. We gave away a fuchsia and a yellow colored one in our anniversary giveaways this year for instance and they were donated by straight from CRKT.

The Pazoda is a very nice little knife.

While waiting for the other items to arrive, I decided to take some photos of what I have right now.

Here is a Dorcy key chain light with bottle opener. The nice thing about this little keychain device, you also get 6 holes that will accept more key rings for expansion. It is odd they give you a bottle opener, despite the notion that you could use the carbiner as a bottle opener. I guess that means you have a backup.

Here is an EDC Gear mini prybar. I am not that knowledgeable of which design and company EDC Gear ripped this one off of.

The Outdoor survival cycling round EDC 10 in 1 multi-tool is a neat concept. The cycling round comes with a single driver bit. No place to store it however when not in use. Odd that they give you a Phillips when the round already has one. shrugs.

Another EDC Gear product. Not sure what to think about this one. First impressions...man this thing is big. Second impression...how do I carry this hunk of steel?

Next up is an EDC skull key ring multi-tool.

A NexTool Monster Mouth. Big and bulky.

NexTool Glacial Pegasus. Another cute and bulky design.

Now here is one that has me stumped. Another EDC Gear product...but a weird one. Not sure what the bag of extras are, except for maybe a key ring attachment system. The central part is thick and would make a poor screwdriver...if that is even of its function.

EDC Gear version of the Brewzer.

Another EDC Gear mini pry bar. Unlike the first, this one is curved.

Gerber GDC Hook Knife.

Not a bad haul. Some good some not so good tools.

BTW, what is the cycling ring made of do you know, it looks like plain steel painted or black oxidized?

The TAD design knock off EDC skull tool has some potential if refinished by a hand, re-brushed with sides polished etc, somehow they managed to scr3w up the skull outline print on it and it came out skewed.

I like that weird oval Ti EDC tool with an insert, I'd discard the insert and use the frame as is - a nice and light wrench, hex bit driver and a scraper with prying potential.

Good one..I'll have a look at some of those on the Bay, I', assuming most of those will be available on Chinese sites like dx.com and aliexpress.com?

cheers.

No clue other than to say it is not Ti...as it is magnetic and feels heftier. Hopefully some form of tool steel.

As for the TAD design knock off...hand finishing does not make it any more than it is...which is a stainless steel design knock off of the original. Note that it is not as thick as the TAD original either. With that said, it is a whole lot cheaper, and I can use the tool and see if the design has any merit without spending a small mint on a tool I am uncertain I would like. Hence one of the reasons behind this eBay cheap offering list of a tool category I still don't generally get as a whole.

I call this exploration of a genre I am still lacking in knowledge and general usefulness. It is my poor attempt to educate myself with these one piece tools.

I on the other hand have gone a little crazy during last 3-4 years with one-piece, pocket, key chain etc tools...to many to count and I'm embarrassed to even start showing them  :-[ as I may get misunderstood.
