I did a comparison test here a few years ago with the regular minichamp and the micra and decided to carry a manager..

I EDC a Rambler and couldn't be more pleased with it. I've considered a mini champ but don't care for some of its tools.

Same here.  When I remove the unwanted tools from a Mini Champ, I end up with a Rambler or Manager.

LiO, I also prefer the high precision of the Victorinox scissors over the larger and less precise scissors of the Micra, but that just me.  However, if you go with the Micra you are ahead of 99.99% of earth's population, so you are good either way.  I go back and forth between the Manger and Micra, though tend to prefer the Manager.

Go with a Surge. That way your keyring will be lighter and you will no longer have to choose between the two. :p

kkkkk Nice jockes, but here where I live cant get an alox rambler, just minichamp, so it must be between an alox mini or micra. Its important to know it will be the only multitool/blade on me. work on an office, so no need for anything bigger.

I do like the Mini Champ. Never really used the one I have. Just a little to small for my hands.

My vote is for the Micra. I still want an alox Rambler though.

I use the Micra for over a year now, had a (non alox) Rambler before, didn't like the size of the scissors. Also the selection of screwdrivers (especially the flat head is also great for prying) is quite good. The tweezers are terrible though.

Between a MiniChamp and a Micra I'd have the Micra any day. The MiniChamp's fat, the Micra is less so and has a better (for me) selection of tools.
Between a Micra and a Manager I'd struggle to choose, I've gone for the Manager as I'm also carrying larger tools. If I was only carrying the one, then I think it might be the Micra with a separate pen.

The scissors on both are good. A bit finer on the MiniChamp, tougher on the Micra.
Blade is better on the Micra, but takes a bit longer to get at.
Bottle opener is much of a muchness.
Nail files are similar, but the Micra has a better "getting fluff out of your toenails" hook.
Flat drivers on the Micra are better. The small one has more reach than the MiniChamp's, and the Micra has a large one that the MC doesn't have.
Tweezers: IMO good on both, but if you're going for an Alox MC then the Micra wins by having them.
Phillips driver: depends on the screws you're doing. The Micra's is good, but if you're trying to use it on tiny screws then the MC's is better. As a companion to another tool I'd prefer the MC's, as a stand alone tool then I prefer the Micra.
The MiniChamp then adds a few useless (to me) tools such as the orange peeler (use the knife?) another knife (use the knife?) a ruler (Micra has one too) and the spatula.

For me, between an Alox MiniChamp and a Micra then the Micra wins hands down.

I considered the Minichamp myself. Unless you have to have an Alox with scissors (the only reason I was considering it too), so many other SAK's in it's size will have a more useful tool loadout than the Minichamp.

I vote Micra or you move on to some celidor model SAK's to really open up your options. :tu:

The Alox minichamp is the same thickness as the micra.

If scissors aren't make or brake it for you have you ever considered trying to find a lm p4.  I know they're out of production but I have carried one with me for almost 10 years and am going to cry the day it dies. Just something to think about.

Is an alox Vic a hard requirement? What I mean is, can you get a normal celidor rambler or manager?

As others have said, the tool loadout on the minichamp is rather pointless. I guarantee you will never need the spatula, and the three different knife blades is ridiculous. If you have the option of buying them, a rambler or manager is a much better choice than a minichamp.

If your only two choices are between an alox minichamp and a micra with absolutely no other options, go for the micra no question. The micra is bigger but its toolset is actually useful, whereas half of what's in the minichamp is dead weight.

If you CAN get a hold of a rambler or manager of some kind, then the choice is harder and depends a lot on what you do with the scissors. If you need bigger or more powerful scissors then go with the micra, otherwise the Vics will be smaller and lighter.

Personally, I'd go for a midnite manager if I were in this position (if you can get one where you are). Always having a pen and flashlight available is rather useful, especially in a package that's around the size of a AA battery.

I think it depends on what else you carry.  If you carry just a folder or nothing else then the Micra is what you want.  It's a very capable tool with very nice strong drivers which is rare for a tool this size.  If your like me and pretty much always have a 84mm or larger SAK/multi-tool on you then the minichamp/rambler is what I prefer.  I found that the small Vic scissors are all that I need for non-work EDC.  And it's mini drivers / nail file compliments my larger SAK's very well.  Or like most of us get both ::)

My vote is Micra. I like SAK scissors but Micra scissors get my vote anyday. The small flathead screwdriver on the Micra has been a life saver also.
I knew my wife was a keeper when she transitioned from calling it a knife thingy to a multi-tool.

rambler, manager, midnite manager, choose one of them if you don't need a big scissors. get away from mini champ, most tools are useless. if you need scissors most go with micra.

Actually, our local scissor expert seems to prefer the SOG crosscut, unfortunately she is currently in a dungeon battling dragons.

Also, unless you have to cut really thick materials the 58mm scissors do fine. If you want precision then they are the better choice, over the Micra scissor. When I did my review on the Classic I had the Micra fail in one scissor test completely (see here).
Just so you are aware of the Micras weaknesses.

And yes, the Rambler / Midnight Manager I think are the better choice.

The micra, and is minimalist design is just gorgeous, the blade is superb, nail file just awesome, the mini champ is amazing I have one but, I rather go for a midnight manager, our a signature lite, and also the micra and a style cs :) they're never to much.

Not both, but all :)

I have tried the Rambler, Mini champ, as well as a few others and i liked the Rambler but gifted them all away to friends.  The Minichamp i didnt care for as it is too bulky for me.  I now have the Manager and like that one alot.   The Micra is a nice little MT but to me still bulkier than I need.

If i didnt pair my Manager with a Salt 1 or soon to be a Cadet/Pioneer, then i might go for a Mini champ to get more tools, even though some seem kinda redundant.

I usually carry a classic on my keys, but if I need a larger screw driver or can opener, I have a few items that are always in my wallet for emergency use. I've used the Sears 4-way keychain scsrew driver for real jobs, and it works just as well as the Leatherman drivers. It also goes on airplanes as does the P-38. I've flown with my wallet gear many times with no problem.

Go with the 58mm Victorinox! :tu:
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

Cbl51---> How do you fare with just carrying a classic and the Sears 4 Way and P-38? I'm pondering going with a minimal approach in carrying tools..

Here is a topic on Micra vs Minichamp: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=33959.0

I prefer the Kampfer's Micra, especially after I hacked it.

My keychain carry lately has been a Rambler, P-51 (larger than the 38), and a Sears 4-way driver.  The screwdriver and P-51 are long-time companions, and the Rambler has been getting more and more carry time lately.  The three of them make for a very light but very useful combo.  :tu:
