Milestone for me! (Lots of pictures)
on: September 16, 2014, 02:45:49 AM
I thought I post this in full here as well. A few milestones for me, since I started dipping my toes at "modding" (actually it's just disassembly and assembly for me), I made my own Hiker from parts that I have and also made a 91mm wood scale and flushed-riveted it to top it off   :ahhh

from my blog: WOOD SCALES: Victorinox Hiker with Queensland Black Walnut Scale:

This is an assembled Victorinox Hiker in Queensland Black Walnut Scale with exposed flushed rivets.

The rivets were peined as normal and then filed flushed against the wood scale.  I haven't perfected the technique yet as not all the rivets are the same size.

I applied several coats of Kitchen Timber Oil and let it soak through the wood and then waited for a few days for it to completely dry.  I then sanded the top layer it a bit and applied several coats of Carnauba wax for the final finish.

last, with the Spartan in Tasmanian Oak scale

I think it looks very nice,  and to me, lack of uniformity of the peening adds character and shows it was a crafted item.  to me that is not a negative,  it may not be a full blown positive, but it is not a negative.
If I can help, let me know
