File work question
on: September 19, 2014, 05:52:53 AM
I have been bouncing around the idea of doing some file work on my next SAK mod.

I have seen several examples and they are beautiful,  however, all of the ones I have seen were evenly spaced (like 99.99999% of the people would want)

I am considering INTENTIONALLY making mine a bit random, sort of a Mad Max, or post apocalyptic feel, almost as if the metal pieces of the SAK came from scraps or metal.

I would like opinions from you guys, but do not expect greatness, the only art I excel at starts with an "F"
If I can help, let me know

I'm not sure what feedback you're looking for, but I definitely think that could work out to be pretty cool. Maybe have it rock some artificially weathered scales to keep up the apocalyptic look. I'd go for some what of controlled chaos if it were me.

As long as the random pattern is evenly distributed, I'm ok with it!

Seriously, if you would like it to look "ragged" and "Zombie-used", go for it. I'd suggest using a marker to first have an idea of the final result. You can even use it as a guide template.

Sounds like a good plan, but the design needs to be bold enough for it not to just look like a mess. So be brave! A bit of planning will help I would think rather than going freehand.

I'm not often a big fan of file work but have seen some cool examples done on SAKs.

Can't wait to see what you come up with.

With matching wear on the scales, maybe a large blade that has been well sharpened?

Maybe drill holes in things like a skeletoo but more random and sparsl? Or partially drill a hole to make a divot?

that was part of my idea already,  I just need to ensure I do not do it in a place that TOTALLY weakens the tool.

I have some ideas,  just have to see how they play out
