SOG Hawks
on: September 25, 2014, 04:22:59 PM
I came across another SOG tactical hawk the other day, and because I already had one, it came home with me.

SOG Fasthawk

PRODUCT TYPE: AXE
FINISH: BLACK
EDGE TYPE: STRAIGHT
BLADE STEEL TYPE: 420 STAINLESS
HARDNESS: RC. 51-53
OVERALL LENGTH: 12.5"
PRODUCT WEIGHT: 19.00 OZ
BLADE LENGTH: 2"

The SOG Fasthawk is one light super agile tactical weapon. I have to say tactical because this would be of little help in the forest, unless your fending off live or undead things.

I bought this as a lark at the local Canadian Tire. More so because I was a bit amazed that they were actually selling this...at Canadian Tire. I have no use for the tactical hawk...but curiosity reared its head once again, and I found myself bringing it home.

It features a wicked spike on the back end. The blade itself is sharp and the head assembly reinforces the handle.

SOG Voodoo Hawk

PRODUCT TYPE: AXE
FINISH: BLACK
EDGE TYPE: STRAIGHT
BLADE STEEL TYPE: 3CR13
HARDNESS: RC. 51-53
OVERALL LENGTH: 12.56"
PRODUCT WEIGHT: 28.50 OZ
BLADE LENGTH: 3.5"

Now if I was a bit impressed with the um, er, killing prowess of the FastHawk, the Voodoo Hawk brings that up another notch or three. This bad boy is a little shorter than the Fasthawk, but makes up for it with weight.

The head is scarier...if that is possible. The rear spike is larger and sharper than that of the Fasthawk. The handle is balanced with a nice metal weight on the end. In fact, this is a very nice throwing hawk.

Here we have both the Voodoo Hawk on the left, and the Fasthawk on the right.

Does this mean I am also collecting SOG hawks? Not sure yet.

Nice hawks!
I will have to say, they work good in the woods. I use mine in the woods and it is rather good at chopping. Keep in mind, it is not a big ax or heavy hatchet. It is a tomahawk, a light chopper.

The voodoo hawk looks neat.

I also have little use for a spiked hawk but I just might have to eat my own words and give a sog a try again.

It looks like it might be a good ice chipper\breaker for this winter.

Chako, nice!  I am a total newbie in axecraft, Nate got me hooked in tomahawk so one is on its way to me now.  I have no finite plan to process wood, and the light weight of tomahawk appeals to me.  (it doesn't take much convincing, I have no resistant to any cool gears)

Are we going to see a 'throwing' comparison soon?   >:D :pok:

The SOG tomahawk. I have a friend who has the Fast hawk. It seems to do pretty good.

:tu:  I ordered the cold steel Trail Hawk, and am really looking forward to it.  From what I read and saw on yt, I think I am going to mod the handle even before the first use.

The voodoo is shorter than I expected, thought it's more the size of the regular hawk.

Hi Chako. Just a little more info for you on the "fasthawk'. We use them a lot. They stay attached to our sniper rifle drag bags. We use them in the woods to help build "hides". In an urban environment, we use the spike end to make "mouseholes". That's a method of moving from room to room in a house, by knocking holes in the sheetrock, without being seen from the outside. They're quite handy...

Chako, congrats on the new purchase.

I can't believe how fast my tomahawk/axe mini collection is growing.  But over the weekend, I saw a SOG fasthawk at a pretty decent price in a local shop, and just can't resist the urge to buy one...Nate, it's all your fault!  >:D :D

That's a very nice piece of kit Sir. It is most certainly "hard use' equipment. Were you in the military? If so, I have a coin I'd like to send you for your service. You've certainly done plenty for me and it would be nice to RAK you back. I have a couple set aside for you and Santos, just need to find the time to get them in the mail, it's really no trouble at all.

I can't imagine what the police might do if they see a few hawks strapped into a jeep on a routine roadside stop.  :ahhh   :D

As for the Estwing, I think I may not go for one...I don't need anything whispering in my mind. But then again, when has that stopped me before.  >:D :D
