Lumintop Tool AAA
on: September 26, 2014, 11:42:22 AM
Okay, I'm not good at reviews and I've just received this flashlight, but let's share opinions about it in a separate thread :D

So, first of all, I expected the older model with two modes, but got the new one, with three. Which made me happy. It starts on med, though, which made me unhappy. So it's med>low>high. No strobe or crap like that.

Looks like a tough little light. It's really compact and I'm happy it's a 1xAAA clicky. Never had this exactly. So, a few pics :D

I saw in someone's review that there was written "worm" inside the head, but that's not here on mine:

I didn't take pictures of the packaging - it comes in a fairly ordinary boxie and inside you can find a better plastic case (the overall packaging idea looks like the Olight i3s). There are no papers or something, but it comes with two spare o-rings, which is better than papers, keyrings and stuff. So.... yeah, I love it :D AAA form factor; clip; clicky. What can be better :D

Mine came lubed out of the packaging.

I do like clicky for clipped lights. The main three I use are Fenix LD05 in shirt pocket when working, or Quark AA2 Tactical in rule pocket on leg. Out of work it'll either be the Quark AA2 again, or my Sunwayman V10R. I don't tend to clip carry smaller lights though - I prefer to hear a good "thud" when they hit the floor if they fall out of a pocket so I don't lose them  :D

I have quite a few twisties - AAA, AA and CR123 types, but they all tend to be deep pocket carried, usually fastened to another tool. I do this when wearing formal gear or when I don't want any clips of any sort showing. Also when I'm just going with light carry, or don't expect to need a torch.

That said, that one looks like it would be good in a shirt pocket as an alternatine to the LD05  :tu:

yeah, I wanted something shorter, actually :D As I said in another topic, I had got rid of all my AAAs with the exception of the Preon 2 Gen 2. So..... I lacked a 1xAAA. I loved twisties a lot before, now it seems I converted to clickes :D

Thanks, too, Zed :D

I made a short vid on it, will link it here soon. Nothing special, just showing it on video, too, for those who don't like pictures only, lol

Buy one :D They aren't that expensive :D And they're cool. And look quite well-built. And mine already endured its first drop test  half a meter on the hard floor tiles.

Stop posting about this flashlight! :twak:

I've had it in my wishlist for over 6 months now. And it seems I missed the boat on the two mode one.

So buy at least a three-mode one before they're all sold out and they've added a couple of hidden strobe modes:D

Did you get this somewhere local or from one of the Chinese websites?

Local. I wanted one in April, but they'd sold them out and were waiting for new delivery. So the seller guy contacted me the other day, saying they had them in stock again... so I decided to just grab one before they sell them out again, lol

And again, it's rrrrrrrrreallly bright on high, I wish I knew how many lumens it is. It doesn't look like 70...

Thanks :D

I've used the light for about 20 minutes on high, it didn't dim, it didn't get hot....

Then I washed it under running water..   It's alive

While I know most modern lights are supposed to be waterproof etc I also don't quite have the guts to test this on purpose. :-[

I'm now just wondering how this would compare to Fenix LD02.  These seem to be very similar lights on paper.

Welllll... yeah, I also wasn't quite into testing this on purpose, but... if it doesn't pass my test, then it's not worthy.... haven't done that on purpose only with the Preon 2 due to all the .. not so positive reviews online.

For those interested in the specs or the packaging, this is everything it comes in :) No papers, manuals, guides, brochures.

It states the light's two-mode light, maybe they use the old packaging for the new lights, just like the Preon Gen 2 lights.

As for the Fenix LD02, indeed, it would be a good comparison if someone could make it. I wanted that Fenix at the beginning, but then I read it lasted only for 3 minutes on high / 100 lumens and this was a deal breaker for me  :-[

I'm thinking that Lumintop may not actually even be 100 lumens, but it does look bright. Not sure what are the factors that make a light appear brighter. I'm just judging by comparing my Preon 2 on max and the Lumintop on max. They're both nicely floody.

I may try to take a pic with my crappy camera...

I'd forgotten about that step-down on the LD02.:-\  Am I right in thinking it goes all the way down to the medium, or is it somewhere in between?

Edit - Found my own answer here.  Looks like it steps down to medium.  Not sure how they can claim it runs for 45 minutes on high then?

Yeah, this sucks.

BUT, as for the how they can claim it runs for 45 mins - I think that... these claims mean the following: you start it in some mode and they count the duration... till the light dies. So, you start on high, 100 lumens, it goes for 3 minutes on high and 42 on med and low... and since it started on high, ... it means that being on high and then stepping down, it lasted for 45 minutes. Maybe it sounds ridiculous, though

P.S. my camera sucks, tried, but couldn't take proper pics.

I think what I have to keep reminding myself that I really love my clicky D25A as a compact keyring light.

Given the Lumintop is around half the price of the Fenix I suspect you've spent your money wisely. ;)

I have lots of these  :duel:  already, more than enough of these  :viking:  if I'm perfectly honest and far more lights than I could possibly need. ;)  However I do not own a single machete style tool. :D
