Was watching latest episode tonight and you got a very brief glimpse of the Doctor making some random doohickey with what I believe to have been a MP800. 8)  Who needs a sonic screwdriver eh? :D

It was only on screen for a couple of seconds, but wasn't at a good enough angle to get a shot of it.

I had a check on Iplayer and I'm now pretty confident I'm right.  IIRC it was around about 32 minutes in.  Sadly I'm not quite techno-savvy enough to get a screen capture from Iplayer. :-[

Well spotted - And much better than the arbitrary nature of the sonic (Does whatever the plot demands of it) screwdriver.

My daughter and I argue about the validity of the SS every episode.

That's exactly why the Producers of Peter Davidson had it destroyed; it had become a "do-all magic wand".  Doesn't exactly push the writers either, why think of something clever when all he need do is wave a blue torch around? :-\

Oh, and IIRC John Hurt's was red, though I'm not sure the colour invalidates the argument. ;)

I have to say I was a little worried after the first episode or two, but the last couple seem to have found his humour.  Couldn't quite say if it was his performance, the script, the director or whatever but  I'd say if you are going to have Peter C as the Doctor the humour needs to be as sharp as a lemon coming at you with a scalpel. 8)

I don't have a telly, and normally jut wait for the DVD box set to get to the right price  :D However, I have seen the first three Capaldi episodes, and so far I am yet to be convinced.

I'd honestly skip forward to episode 5, that's the one I feel they find their feet as far as Capaldi's character goes. :)

I'm not really into the newer Doctor Who stuff, but a couple of weeks ago, I did see an episode from 2006 called "The Girl in the Fireplace" that was pretty good.  I really liked the older Doctor Who's with Tom Baker (#4) and Peter Davison (#5). The special effects were pretty cheesy back then, but it left a lot to the imagination.  The Doctor usually had some inspiring sidekicks, for teenage boys. :D

Here's a spot from the Classic series.  Sylvester McCoy in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it moment with what I think is a Wenger SAK.  (Time and the Rani Part 4)

I am surprised that the good doctor didn't use his sonic screwdriver instead of a Wenger.  Might have to rewatch Time and the Rani.  I never saw this thread.  I think my favorite sidekick was Sarah Jane.  She was so cute and little.  Best wishes.  Gary
