Gerber stuff.
on: October 03, 2014, 02:25:05 PM
Gerber, owned by Fiskars since 1987, is a company I like simply because they do not seem all that afraid to push the envelope and try new ideas. In fact, once you start amassing them, you can't help but notice the variety of different concepts available both in the past, present, and I hope future product line.

So here are a few photos that I took of my Gerber collection subsection. Yes, I guess I can actually say subsection.   :D

I have a few Carolina Knife Tools, a subsidiary of Gerber I beleive, and a Winchester, probably produced by Gerber's economy division here, as well as a Paul Chen Multi Tasker. These in the photo lack the tool locking tabs of the newer models.

Here we have some of the BO MP 600 variants that I have. I say some because i have several military kits with BO Gerbers in them..which I will also include in this thread. See the 600 DET with the C4 spike...the one with the silk screen printed USA is a counterfeit.

MP 400's. All different variations.

More MP 600s.

A good mix of Gerber multi-tools.

Gerber MP 650 Evolution. A neat design about thinking out of the box...main issue, it doesn't fold away.

A selection of Gerber butterfly opening multi-tools.

More butterfly opening Gerbers, but the Octane and Balance are sliding head multi-tools. I placed them here as they tend to fit with the wild and crazy designs of the other non sliding head tools.

BG stuff. It is Gerber...and sort of spans both the MT and survival kit stuff I like to collect.

Gerber Groundbreaker, and Cable Dawg, among other things.

A closer look at some the military centric Gerbers.

There are plenty of BO MP 600 variants out there. Here we have an MP 600 Sight, An MP 600 DET, a blunt nosed MP 600, and a needle nosed MP 600.

A closer look at the expensive Cable Dawg, and the EFECT Military Maintenance Tool.

I also have two weapon cleaning and maintenance kits. This one is the smaller of the two which consist of a BO MP 600, an Ontario ASEK, and a small pouch full of items to clean a firearm.

Next kit is larger, and it is an OTIS IWCK Improved Weapons Cleaning Kit. This comprehensive kit will maintain 5.56mm, 7.62mm, 9mm, and .45 caliber firearms. Once again, the kit comes with a BO MP 600, along with all the extras to clean and service your firearm in the field.

Next up is a USGI Sapper kit. Like everything else here, a BO MP 600 is supplied, but this is the special DET version for dealing with plastic explosives. The Kit also comes with a Gerber Mine prob kit, along with a flashlight and other miscellaneous thing that a sapper might need to clear out mines, trip wire traps, etc.

Hey Dan, I recognise the Myth Archery tool, but is that what the sheath is for, or is it for something else?

Uh oh, every time I see a post full of Gerbers like yours I get that funny itch when I try to persuade myself I need 'another flicky' although I don't really.

I'm not sure what is it with Gerbers that keep drawing me back to them, it's one of those tools I love to hate  :P

Is it their crudeness and simplicity? Is it the fact the multipliers specifically are so rough, loose and rattly that they can't be any 'looser and rattlier' and most likely would survive a nuclear attack. I get the whole MK47 Kalasnikov connotations and parallels (actually I used to "own" one of those when I was in the service), but still...

The ones I'm eyeing these days are a BO Diesel and blunt-nose S/S or BO MP600, we'll see, my funds are pretty slim these days.
EDC and OCD. A wicked mix.

Gareth, the sheath is for the Myth folder, and not for the Myth archery tool.

It's me...not you.

Sticky fingers. I noticed I called the AK47 an MK47 and tried to fix it, that's all.
