Cupboard's generosity
on: October 05, 2014, 07:15:56 PM
A while back I made a random comment that one of the few multis I was looking for was the MP700 Urban Legend.

Not too much later, Tom very generously sent his 700 to join the Blamington Hall collection! The 700 had seen some abuse in its life( before Toms stewardship),with two of the flat drivers more or less unserviceable

Having some tools over from another Gerber project, I decided on replacement rather than re grinding. Having found just how easy the 700 is to work on (far easier than the 4/6xx!) I decided to swap out the tweezers for a can opener.

The small driver is very useful, getting into the screws that the Phillips can't fit. While the can opener is not one of the better ones on multis,it's better than none whatsoever !

The Urban Legend has already seen active service at work. It's a handy little package, with a good tool load. If I had one criticism( and I feel a 50ft moment coming on here) is that I'd prefer pliers without the replaceable cutters,if only because they limit the gripping surface of the plier jaws( which you want for vandalising fixing shelves)

Overall,it's a great little tool that deserves more love, and deserved a longer production life.

Again many thanks Tom,this little buggers going to see lots of work!
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

Nice one  :tu:

I never had any problems with the indexable cutters getting in the way like they do on the Rebar, but then I don't tend to be twisting sheet metal. I suppose some blunt nose with anvil type cutters might be a benefit for that role. I still have a real soft spot for the MP700 though  :D

It's a nice little thing, but didn't fit a gap for me and it needed work I didn't have time to give it.

Too light duty for work, pliers too small and I agree about the cutters.
For off work, it's fairly fat and has a locking blade.

The Sideclip ticks rather more boxes for me :)
