Help me choose my Huntsman
on: October 05, 2014, 07:35:30 PM
Greetings fellow SAK nutters.

I am getting a huntsman in the near future and have the choice of color to do now.

I have quite a few of the 2 layer knives and even a 3 layer climber in eco nylon.
The only 4 layer I now own is a yellow Wenger Evogrip S18 and I want one with a bottle opener to alternate with when camping.

I have the choice of the red, silvertech and the cammo huntsmen,
I don't own any silvertech or cammo at this stage, please inspire me with picture if possible.

ps, I am also getting a Compact but only in red. Cant find a black anywhere down here, might get a climber black as that is in stock.

If you've got the option, get the Climber as a Silvertech...to my mind Silvertech is kind of urban.

The camo scales are really nice, but can be a bitch if you drop one in the field...might not be such a problem in SA as it is in Britain, depending where you are.

If it's on budget, get a set of white or yellow scales from Felinevet or SwissBianco Canada :tu:
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

+1 for the Silvertech scales. They are really nice looking in person. Interesting, but elegant at the same time.

Silvertech looks fantastic. I had a Deluxe Tinker with hose scales a few years back. That's how I know they show up all the gunk that creeps under the scales, and that the scales are more brittle than standard ones  ;) If it's living in a draw or going to be treated with kid gloves, get a silvertech. If it's going to be a user get standard red scales.

.... or get the silvertech one and switch the scales onto another knife that will have an easier life than the Huntsman   >:D

I see what you mean, the silvertech suits an urban adventurer and would look good on a light use pocket knife.
Having a Spartan and Climber already does not mean I should not get another with different scales, ;)

Huntsman is for real outdoor adventure, camping, fishing, hunting, classic red or dress up cam?

Maybe just classic red to counter the new yellow evo. I also cant understand why a compact costs more than a huntsman, another story that

I understand this color wasn't mentioned in the colors that are available to you but I thought I should make you aware,as others have,of other color options. Good luck.

Personally on a user I prefer the Eco Nylon scales. You can get them from SwissBianco in Red or Black and sometimes blue. Nylon doesn't show the wear and tear as much as the standard scales.

I have a "worker" Climber in red nylon, tough and durable and I see my dealer offers the huntsman in the ecoline as well.

I have scratched Silver Tech from the list, I'll get a Climber in that and move the nylon to a backup. It can fight for pocket time with the compact.

The huntsman needs to compete with the Wenger S18 and I think it will lose out if not high gloss red or camo, screw/driver notwithstanding.
Would be cool if the shield was permanent on the nylons, mine is worn off on a recruit I often carry.

Just for closure on this one, I went with a hard working red nylon "ecoline" as I plan to carry this when out camping.
It will see hard use around the camp, mostly tins, bottles, dry wood, firestarting, tweezers etc

I'm a big fan of the red nylon scales, and love the Huntsman. GREAT choice.

I've told the story before, but I don't get along with camo gear in the woods. The red is much easier to spot if you drop it, or set it down and forget where you put it.
