New Gerber Diesel
on: October 08, 2014, 12:45:12 AM
Picked up a Gerber Diesel the other day and so far I like it, flicky pliers are just fun. So does anyone who has/had this tool have any advice for what I should expect wear wise or any issues I should look out for. Also any worthwhile mods for this tool? I'd love to know lol

Pics or it didn't happen  >:D

From the longevity, wear and tear point of view, these are built like tanks -  an evolution of the venerable Multiplier from the 90es & MP600.

As for the mods, best to leave it alone. Gerber has already addressed many shortcomings of the older MP600 model and implemented or upgraded them on a Diesel.
EDC and OCD. A wicked mix.

Others have used their Diesels harder than I have, but I cannot recall anyone coming up with any real issues nor have I expecienced any myself.

The only mod I might be tempted to do is a bit of tool swaping and get rid of the lanyard ring and 2D phillips, and put in a full 3D phillips from a MP600.  Other than that I think it's good to go.

I added a 3d Phillips, and removed the blade for UK legal compliance :multi:

You'll get no argument from me, I like it as well.  Just happens that I like the 3D one a little more. :)

Update:
Well since day one I've hated the sheath that came with the tool. Found out today that my diesel fits even Bette in the sheath for my old Buck 446c. That buck sheath has always been my favorite and now I get to use it. Pictures in next post

I just picked one of these up, in BO, and I have a SS version coming from across the pond. How are you liking it so far?

So far it's great, the flicky pliers are really convenient. The only problem I've found so far is that sometimes I hold both handles a little too hard and I can't open it lol. Congrats on the BO, one of my favorite coatings

If you do that, we definitely need to see it. That should make it bombproof!

There may be money to be made here. If it comes out good, I'd certainly pay to have mine done...

Interesting, but I would be less likely to venture into other people's gear until I was more experienced at least lol I'll let you know
