LIGHT MY FIRE Firesteel 2.0 Scout and FireKnife.
on: October 08, 2014, 01:04:24 AM
I came across these at the local Canadian Tire in the outdoor camping section. I must say, I was curious to see what these were about and took them home with me. Here are my first impressions of these quality products.

LIGHY MY FIRE is a Swedish company, and the FireSteel 2.0 shows some very nice thought out designing. In fact, I am very impressed with the design elements. The designer is J. Nordwall, and the package also states you can get around 3000 strikes from this combination. That is a lot of fires.

Each component is molded to fit the other piece. Not only does this give the Scout FireSteel 2.0 a beauty that borders on art, it also makes the tools very ergonomic. I found myself playing with the interactive pieces without thinking about it. Yes, these pieces are addictive in their tactile inducing shape.

This combo has plenty of little design features, such as the saying stamped on the scrapper.

There is also a built in safety whistle on the scrapper, which is a very nice touch.

My overall impression of this set is very high. Quality through and through. I just love the design, shapes, and overall fidget factor of this set. That it fits together also makes this a little more compact to carry.

Next up is the LIGHT MY FIRE FireKnife.

This is a collaboration between two Swedish firms, LIGHT MY FIRE, and Mora. This is my first Mora knife...and I can tell you night and day above the cheap fare that I have been playing with of late.

The sheath is made of  hard plastic that I like. No worries of having a sharp point stab you in the leg. The belt loop is made well and easily slides on a belt, but won't fall off of it either.

The grip is superb, and grippy. The pommel unlocks and you can pull out the firesteel that is nestled in the middle of the handles. There is a cutout on each side of the handle that adds to the design element...but upon holding the knife, I quickly found out fingers nestle into these indentations, give you a super positive grip, and comfort. This is a very well thought out product.

Just give the removable pommel a half twist...

And the firesteel comes right out. The blade spine is also designed to help use the firesteel...and did I forget to mention sharp out of the box. Paper cutting sharp.

So overall, I am very impressed with these two Swedish made products. I am so enamored with the LIGHT MY FIRE FireKnife, I am seriously thinking of going back to buy a duplicate for use. I think it makes a great survival/outdoor knife.

Those look great Dan!  I haven't seen those at our Canadian Tire, but I'll have to have another look to see if I can find them.

Nice Mora! If you like that one, you should get ahold of a Mora Bushcraft Black.

I like that fire knife.

I could see myself caring it on a ultra light camping trip.

I don't own a fixed blade for camping
 I really should

They are hidden in with the outdoor camping gear. Not with all the other knives and multi-tools. They are also in a sort of nondescript cardboard box. I walked by them twice before the Scout FireStarter 2 caught my eye. It was only then did I spot the Fireknife.

A Mora Bushcraft Black? You enabler you. Off to do some research. :)

Ok that was quick...just tagged one off of eBay. Now the wait.  :salute:

Yes, that is how impressed I am with this Mora knife.  :D

I love my FireKnife. Maybe not an ideal bushcraft knife but a very useful one for the outdoors nonetheless.  :salute:

The more I handle this Mora...the more I like.
I know why. I liked it so much I got a spare, sadly the same colour as it was the only one I could find locally, as well as a Bahco 2444 which appears to be a re-branded Mora. A different animal this one, it now lives in my tool box and I'm a happy puppy.

I forgot to say I like the brushed finish on the blade, contrary to my usual taste.

Bad quality pics of the fixed blade in my BOB bag:

I have never handled the fire knife, but Moras in general are fantastic knives and amazing value for money. :tu:

They do have lots.  Nice place to grab them from.

http://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=sr_nr_p_6_0?rh=n%3A2242989011%2Ck%3Amora+knife%2Cp_6%3AA3DWYIK6Y9EEQB&keywords=mora+knife&ie=UTF8&qid=1412973928&rnid=2444205011

I bought a ton of moras when I started into knives and still have a few.  They are one of the low cost option knives that are actually GOOD.  They are made well and of decent steel.

My favorite was the mora 510, and mora 2000.  I had a bunch of companions that I just ended up using for shop utility knives and abused the hell out them.

My boys bought me one a couple of months ago (see here) and I also like it very much.  Every time I go outdoors I take it with me, most of the time in my backpack.  It's very comfortable and for some reason I really like to take it out of its sheath just to put it back in ...  almost as good as closing a SAK  ;).

Great knife, and great value for money  :tu:.

Chako,

If you like the fireknife, you will love the Bushcraft survival.  Can't agree with Nate more on this.

I don't have a fireknife yet, but will love to get one someday, just to compare it with the Bushcraft survival.
