LIGHT MY FIRE Spork.
on: October 09, 2014, 01:20:37 AM
I had recently bought a cheap spork a sporting goods store, but saw these in Canadian Tire, and thought I may as well see what they are about.

There is the X-Large Spork, and the regular sized Spork. Both exhibit excellent quality, especially compared to my first Spork shown in the next photo with the two LIGHY MY FIRE versions, even though the prices were relatively the same.

Very utilitarian.  :D

I had one of the plastic Light My Fire Sporks, till I broke it. Now I have their Titanium Spork, I use it most days for lunch at work. I really like it! Easy to clean, looks cool and won't break like the plastic ones do.

I have a few of these kicking around.
I love the size of them- but I have broken a couple so far.

The Sea To Summit ones are stronger than the LMFs. :)

I've owned four of them, all snapped in my bag in under a year, and they all failed as eatting tools IMO- not enough fork. I've had my Primus folding spook/fork for three years, haven't broken it yet, and it works better as a fork. Soup sucks with either one, though.

And these seemed to be made better than the other cheap one I have...I can only imagine how bad that cheap one is.  :o

I don't call those things (big spoon with tiny fork tines) "sporks". Rather, I call them "foons", because that's what they are, a spoon with tiny, nearly useless, fork tines. To add insult to injury, the tines are usually just deep enough to prevent the spoon part from working effectively.  In short, and this is just MHO, but I hate them. That said, the LMF ones with the spoon on one end and the fork on the other, THAT is what I call a *true* "spork". The only gripe I have is the knife part is pretty much worthless, but hey, better than nothing. I swear by them in my backpack, messenger bag, lunch bag, etc. Overall they work far better IMHO than the foons.

Well, that's actually true. The tines aren't of much use. I just like it for the size and the reach. Plus the bottle opener and the bit holder

I'm pretty sure a spork is a spoon with fork tines on it, and it is the LMF ones that technically are not sporks.

I actually prefer the Light My Fire "Spork Little".  Seen here with my stove on coffee making duty.  I've managed to break one of the normal ones as well.

I'm a fan of Snow Peak's models and have both the fullsized and mini versions. They're handy pieces of kit and nicely environmental verses plasticware when bringing your lunch to work.

I do use Snow Peak's spork too, and particular their Ti stacking pots, very well made and light weight.

For titanium I have a set of Brunton, at least they have no taste, if it's one thing I can't stand is metal flavor, I also have a Coleman Polycarbonate Set which my younger son and I use daily.. JR

I have one I never used. I use my fingers most of the time with a knife of a SAK I always carry.
My aunt from US sent us a set of metal foons around 40 years ago. What a novelty for us kids.  We used them as spades in the garden. :) She might  still have the survivors somewhere in her kitchen, I'll search for them (sentimental reasons).

I have had about 5 of the original LMF sporks. I really liked them, and carried them as EDC in my bag for years. Over time though,  I got tired of broken tines on the fork side and retired my glow in the dark version before it broke.

I went with a Snow Peak titanium spork in green and am very happy with it. More durable,  more conventional grip, and to be honest, the LMF always felt odd in the mouth. The shape..

I do still love the look of the LMF though, and for the price they are hard to beat. Just not the best for someone who uses it daily and bag carries it.

Are those with four tines called "fourks" then?

These multitool  spork are very necessary when you are out for some camping or hunting.
If I need to pick some good EDC tools.
Then I would take my love leatherman multi tool wave and a flash light. Other are just a waste !!!

That's why I carry one of the Ti ones in my messenger bag.
