Thanks ts, I guess it is all opinion, and I know it varies. Have you owned or know about an out the front automatic knife?

Have you owned or know about an out the front automatic knife?Unfortunately OTF knives are illegal here in Canada. I can own assisted, but no Autos. The laws are rather liberal except when it comes to Autos and Balisongs.

Balisongs, gravity knives, belt buckle knives, automatics, push daggers, knives hidden in items that are less than 30cm/12" in length. It is legal to carry a sword cane in Canada but not a balisong. We have really weird knife laws.

Get a Kershaw Leek, any model. Take it apart, clean out all the oil in the pivot and any dirt that's gotten in from storage/use. Polish all the pivot mating surfaces (washers, inside handle, blade) with Dremel polishing paste and a nice soft cloth. Add a very small amount of your lubricant of choice, I like heavy mineral oil, and re-assemble. Add blue loctite, and adjust the pivot just to the point where the blade is centered in the handle.Practice opening with the thumbstud instead of the flipper. Enjoy your new, scary-fast opening AO.
Kershaw torsion bar assisted openers are pretty darn quick. On a side note the Wave feature on folders is pretty fast as well and may be "as" quick as an assisted.By the time knife is drawn and assisted device deployed a Wave featured blade is deployed as it is drawn.

I would agree that the quickest opening assist is actually the wave.
A fixed blade is pretty fast.Nate

I love that when I draw the knife it's ready to do work without any further actions. My Emerson was similar in that when I drew the knife the blade was deployed via Wave feature as thus ready to do work. I dont need a fast knife mind you but it sure is nice to be ready to go that quickly. I can recommend the CRKT for smaller things and a fixed blade is a great way to go if of course your laws allow for one.
